About this listen

Antonia Weston has come to the sleepy market town of Amberwood in search of peace and anonymity after a shattering and all-too public tragedy in her life. Shortly after her arrival, a series of disturbing incidents occur eerily echoing the past she is trying to forget. She becomes fascinated by the macabre local history surrounding the disused watermill, Twygrist, and the now vanished Latchkill Asylum. Memories still linger: how no one would pass Latchkill in "the spider light". Someone knows all about Twygrist's darkness, and how to use it in a most horrific way.©2007 Sarah Rayne (P)2007 Oakhill Publishing Ltd Crime Fiction Mystery Psychological Suspense

Flawed but Entertaining

I certainly loved the story structure of this thriller. I love mysteries that thread through different timelines. Moreover I loved the premise of the main character, although I did find her precarious mental state a little overly-convenient at times to suit the plot.

On the whole, the story is a bit scattered and although it's all pulled together in the end, I'm not sure the main protagonist was a truly strong enough character to have all the threads of this story coalesce around her. So although you have a decent resolution, it felt a bit lacking at the end.

The narration is very good, though.
