About this listen

So, in these last days—days that surely approach the “great and dreadful day of the Lord”—let us heed the message of Malachi 4 with sobriety and hope. Let every believer, young and old, hear the Spirit’s cry for hearts to turn. Let us rise as spiritual fathers and mothers, not with superiority, but with servanthood. Let us disciple, not for control, but for release. Let us restore, not for image, but for inheritance. And let us remember that every act of compassion, every moment of prayer, every word of blessing spoken into a spiritual child’s life is pushing back the curse and preparing the way of the Lord. For when the hearts are turned, the land is healed, and the King will come to find a people ready—united, restored, and full of the love that only spiritual fathers and mothers can give.
:As the prophecy of Malachi 4 settles into its final words, we must take notice of the seriousness with which God ends the Old Testament Scriptures: “Lest I come and smite the earth with a curse.” This is not merely poetic language—it is divine warning, loaded with the weight of urgency. But what is the curse? It is more than just punishment. It is the natural outcome of unresolved division between generations, the consequence of love being withheld, truth being neglected, and identity being lost. A world without the influence of godly fathers and mothers—natural and spiritual—is a world drifting toward destruction. The curse is what happens when children are not fathered, when daughters are not cherished, when families remain fragmented and discipleship is ignored. But this curse can be averted. The turning of hearts is the key. It is God’s mercy holding back judgment while giving space for healing and reconciliation.
In this way, the prophecy of Malachi becomes deeply pastoral. God, through His prophet, is not shouting from a distance—He is pleading like a Father. The turning of hearts is not simply a human duty; it is a reflection of God’s own turning toward us. He sent His Son to fulfill this very ministry. Christ became the ultimate expression of the Sun of righteousness, rising with healing not only for individual souls, but for entire households and generations. He turned toward humanity with open arms and suffered on the Cross so that we could be reconciled to the Father. His heart turned to us while we were still afar off, and His call now is that our hearts would turn to one another.
Spiritual fathers and mothers walk in this Christ-like pattern. They do not wait for others to initiate reconciliation—they take the first step. Like God, they make the first move, even if they were the ones hurt. They pursue those who run, cover those who fall, and affirm those who’ve never heard a word of love. They know that curses are broken not by might or law, but by love that turns hearts. They believe that a wayward child can be restored, that a hardened heart can be softened, and that generational pain can end in their lifetime. This hope compels them to keep showing up, keep speaking life, and keep standing in the gap between the curse and the blessing.
