Editorial reviews

Sometimes referred to as the "second Christ", Francis of Assisi remains among Catholicism's most beloved saints, his Franciscan order of monks continuing to endure over 800 years after its founding. This iMinds audiobiography of Francis examines his well-to-do upbringing in mercantile Italy, his life-changing experience as a prisoner of war, and the transformation that led him to a life of poverty and simplicity. Hosting the proceedings, Australian actress Leah Vandenberg examines Francis' experience with stigmata, his religious communion with birds and animals, and the Franciscan Order's resonance during his lifetime and beyond. Sprightly and consonant, Vandenberg imparts a wealth of information in this brief survey, sure to appeal to children and adults alike.

Critic reviews

"I'm learning all sorts of stuff about stuff I didn't even know I didn't know. And it sticks. In a nutshell: wonderful." (Jonathon Margolis, Financial Times)

Pleasantly surprised by this short story!

I have heard of St. Francis of Assisi before but knew almost nothing about him. Normally when you hear the stories about sainted individuals they were martyred horribly and therefore became a saint because they gave up their lives in this way. I was pleasantly surprised to find out that St. Francis of Assisi was born and raised wealthy and in spite of his upbringing he willing gave up his money and titles to serve the Lord. I also was surprised that he did not begin as a priest but just as a man who tried to help others as well as animals and nature around him. He inspired others to live holy lives as well and he died later on in life from old age (they don't mention his exact age) but he was made a Saint by how he lived his life not how he died which I appreciated. I would pay for this book even if it was a Free read!

Siri

It’s only a short summary, should not be considered to be a story. I wish it was longer. They didn’t mention that he too could fly.

Life of St Francis

This was a very short listen about St Francis of Assisi. I liked it well enough, but would have loved to learn a little more about this patron saint of the animals. I was surprised to learn that he was from a very wealthy family who disowned him for his faith. I am not Catholic, but have always loved to see and hear about St Francis and how he loved and cared for the animals.

Way too short

I was expecting a biography. This is a wiki summary. Voice was okay, but background music was too much

Interesting to know about St Francis

This is my first time hearing of St Francis of Assisi. Part of his life, specially about renouncing wealth, reminded me of Buddha. However, stigmata near end of his life sounds really painful!

My First Saint

I discovered Saint Francis of Assisi long before converting to Catholicism. I admired him because of his kindness to animals. Now that I am Catholic, I have a family of saints, and Saint Francis is always among them on a table in my bedroom!
