Excellent - rich with detailed information.

An epic story which is described in rich detail. Strongly recommend for those seeking to obtain a strong operational level understanding of the Stalingrad battle. Especially useful for those interested in wargaming the conflict.
The narration held my attention.
Glantz does not disappoint but, like all of his works, accurate period maps are a necessary companion.

Concise description of the movements of all forces involved as well as some strategic considerations on both sides

Way too much details of large group movements of which names and numbers mean very little to anyone but professionals. I became fairly bored with the story less than half way through with the remainder somewhat of a struggle to get through (for me as a layman) Was hoping more for more details concerning individual and small unit experiences and details.

Professional high quality history work

Unlike many books these days , this one is very well researched and structured properly too. It is based on sources from both sides of the conflict and adds appropriate commentary. Many historians based their work on either German or Russian sources but this one makes a point of using both.
Like with all D. Glantz works its always worth the time for a proper, in-depth understanding of the topic.

Very detailed account of the battle, the descriptions of the units and their condition at each engagement is impressive.

Less numbers, more humanity

The story of the greatest battle of WWII is a great study of humanity. Not numbers.
This story should focus more on the humanity, less on a list of battalions and armies.

Good book, doesn't work well as an audiobook.

I assume that when this book was written, it was meant to be read rather than listened to.
