About this listen

America’s worst nightmare has just become a brutal reality. The most unlikely terrorist enemy of all now holds a knife against the country’s throat. With both diplomatic and conventional military options swept from the table, the president calls upon Navy SEAL turned Secret Service agent Scot Harvath to disable a brilliantly orchestrated conspiracy intended to bring the United States to its knees.

Teamed with beautiful Russian Intelligence agent Alexandra Ivanova and a highly trained CIA paramilitary detachment, Harvath embarks on an adrenaline-fueled search that spans the world - and leads to a final, deadly showdown on American soil, with a lethal and sinister enemy from the past.

The story is great in that it really begins to give fans an understanding of the main character. It so the story telling that makes it bearable. The narrator sounds as if he's The Ancient Mariner and hes looking forward to being able to stop. I j
have to say this is the second time I've encountered him and will avoid him like the plague!

Great story. Narration sucked.

Love the Story ..but the accent and age of the reader was annoyingly accented and old voiced.

Great Story..Annoying Reading

I'm really enjoying the Scot Harvath series. I do wish George Guidall would learn how to pronounce "rifling" as in rifling through the folder contents. He pronounces it "riffling" (short vowel sound). Rifling is pronounced like rifle. Still a great job, despite my OCD issues :) !!!

Brad Thor! Great Author!!!

I did a review of this book right after reading the first couple of chapters. After I completed the book this is a Mitch Rapp book and through and through. A lot more mature that the first couple of books and the protagonist actually shows some maturity and competence at his job. The writer found his characters and his own footing.

Confirmed. This is a Mitch Rapp book.

What did you love best about State of the Union?

I liked the story with the main characters from previous books intact.

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

I enjoyed the book but it wasn't like I couldn't put it down.

What three words best describe George Guidall’s voice?

Old, boring, unexciting.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

No extreme reaction.

Any additional comments?

I didn't care for the narrator of the book. He made the characters, including Scot Harvath, sound old.

Interesting story

Like a military Clive cussler. some of the dialogue at time can be a little corny but I think it's well done. I like the technical inserts and descriptions for equipment. Yes it is predictable at times, but that doesnt distract, it is engaging. I would recommend.

Not overly corny

overall, I enjoyed this book. it continues from bood 2 in the series but also manages to stand alone. But, again, it somehow still feels like things are rushed when the story is wrapping up. not nearly as much detail as the first 75% of the story. AND, I still find Scott Thor's his description of women to be basic and minimalist.. He never states how smart they are. Instead they are referred to as "beautiful", "stunning", "flawless", and "loose". This always diminishes an otherwise good story. I've listened to or read several of Thor's books. This is not the first time he has referred to women in such ways.

Good story
