About this listen
Saskatchewan's Big Muddy Badlands provided the perfect location for Station No. 1 on the Outlaw Trail. During the last five minutes of the old west, at the turn of the 20th century, these buttes, ravines and canyons were known as The Devil’s Playground.
Indeed, the badlands that spread out from the United States/Canada border are full of many untold stories of the old west. For decades, there was plenty a horse thief and outlaw looking to rustle cattle and steal horses, drive them over the border and sell them.
By then, many of the infamous riders of the Outlaw Trail had been locked up or gunned down or chased over the Canadian border by sheriffs and Pinkerton men. Those who remained continued to hide out in Station No. 1 of the Outlaw Trail.
Some of the outlaws you’ll meet in these pages are Dutch Henry, Red Nelson or Sam Kelly as he was more commonly known, Frank Jones, Bloody Knife, Kid Trailer and others. You’ll also find photography of the Big Muddy badlands, Sam Kelly caves, and even the millennia old landmark, Castle Butte, taken on Linda’s many visits. So get your own copy and kick back to take a visit to the last five-minutes of the wild, wild west of North America.
