About this listen

A stunning and unexpected tale of tragedy, survival, and true beauty.

For fashion journalist Lauren (“LoLo”) Scruggs, a short flight to look at Christmas lights turned into a nightmare when she was struck by the plane’s spinning propeller blades. As Lauren was rushed to the hospital, fighting for her life, the world watched in shock and horror. Several major surgeries and thousands of prayers later, Lauren was still alive. But she had suffered brain trauma and lost her left hand and left eye. Some thought that this would be the end of everything for her, a beautiful young woman working in an industry focused completely on appearance. They were wrong.

In Still LoLo, Lauren reveals what really happened that night, how she survived against all odds, and what her life is like today. She is unflinchingly honest in the face of difficult questions: What kind of future will I have? Will anyone be able to love me now? Where is God in all this pain? Through her story, Lauren calls us all to live a life without fear and to overcome whatever challenges threaten to limit us. Containing personal stories from Lauren and her family, Still LoLo is a compelling and fiercely beautiful account of faith, determination, and staying true to who you are - no matter what.

A beautiful woman inside and out

Would you listen to Still Lolo again? Why?

Yes, I found Lauren to be a very interesting person and she tells her story so well. I found her to be an inspiration both before he accident by pursuing her dreams despite what others felt she should be doing and believing in herself and afterward when she didn't become bitter but instead she remained focus on achieving her goals.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Lauren Scruggs of course. Although I thought her family to all be amazing and supporting.

What about Eleni Pappageorge’s performance did you like?

She was interesting to listen to and I thought she did Lauren's character justice in how she sounded.

What’s an idea from the book that you will remember?

Realizing that while you may need to modify or adjust the path to your dream that even terrible things that happen to you do not need to prevent you from accomplishing your dreams and in fact if you looked at them differently you do not have to be angry and bitter about tragedies such as this. We may never understand why certain things happen to us, but this certainly created a new and different direction in Lauren's life.

Any additional comments?

I listen to mostly biographies and memoirs on my long commute to and from work as well as while running. I need the story to be interesting and move forward quickly so I don't become bored on the road or demotivated during my run. This book delivered on it's promises and kept me interested throughout. I'd love to see another book by Lauren more focused on today and what she has achieved in business. I think she has some amazing qualities that not only enabled her to survive and significantly recover from the accident but to also start her own magazine. One additional surprise is getting a bird's eye view of how the media sensationalizes and twists stories to sell news. I knew that of course before this book but she identified specific instances in which facts were either unintentionally or intentionally misrepresented and how some people eat that up such as certain news outlets depicting her as a rich "dumb blond" spoiled socialite who was likely drinking or on drugs and walked in to the prop when the truth was so far from this. Many people think if they read it or saw it on the news then it must be true and even attacked her through social media. Here she is a victim and her family and Lauren do not need total strangers saying such terrible things. Yet she showed how to let it roll off and move on and not become attached to such words. Though most people were kind and supportive, she found a way to gain strength from those individuals. Through her story she reminds us there are many good people in the world. She is truly still a beautiful woman on the outside and her story shows us she is also beautiful on the inside. I recommend this book to anyone who simply wants to listen/read an inspirational story or is dealing with a tough issue in their life.

Should be under Christian Inspiration or Religious

I love memoirs and really enjoy listening to people triumph over daunting odds. The "teaser" for this book tells about the moments leading up to Lolo's accident and then leaves you wanting more and I was excited to hear her story. I am not against religion but I am not Christian and would prefer not to listen to Christian inspirational books. After about 2 chapters in which every person talks about Jesus Christ, religion and going back to her parents religious history and how they met I knew this wasn't the book for me. I know there is an amazing story and I really enjoy her blog but it was too much religion for me. I hope this review doesn't offend anyone and I respect everyone's religion and if you are a Christian or very religious you would probably really enjoy this book.
