In the last decade, I’ve shared in thousands of conversations about Strengths. As a coach, it has been my mission to explore with my clients each aspect of what it means to be Strengths focused and to live from a place of “what it possible”, instead of “what needs fixing.”
What I have found, time and time again, is that when we are each able to get out of our own we can step into a life with greater meaning, less stress, and more aliveness. There is no greater tool that I have found than StrengthsFinder/CliftonStrengths to begin this journey to personal freedom.
The following pages are organized into two distinct sections. The first is a deep dive into one of the four Strengths Domains, which are: Executing, Influencing, Strategic Thinking, and Relationship Building. These are categories designed by the creators of the StrengthsFinder/CliftonStrengths, which organizes the 34 Strengths Themes into specific clusters.
The Strengths Themes represented in this collection are in the Strategic Thinking Domain— Analytical, Context, Futuristic, Ideation, Input, Intellection, Learner, and Strategic.
Here's a taste:
What Is the LEARNER Theme
Learners love to learn. Yes. But, there is more to it than that. They seem to be following an invisible thread. Learners are the people in our lives who are always digging into something new, researching an idea or topic, and gathering information from anywhere they can. They find tremendous value and pleasure in traveling from ignorance to deeper levels of awareness. Experiencing the world as it opens around a new subject is a near-sacred pursuit for them. However, not just any old subject; for learners, there needs to be a spark of natural interest. They are not people who are “happy to learn anything”. No, they must be drawn in, and the newer the knowledge is, the better. Even if it seems like their interests pull them in ten directions, their thirst is intuitively guided and they are very much at home in it.
Why Should We Care
Learners are actively engaged in life and they teach us how see the world with hunger and interest. They see layers and depth where the rest of the world may see only the surface. Learners remind us that life is a precious opportunity to grow and to do something substantial. They are the ones who dive in, as they are not easily threatened by newness. In the workplace and in our communities, they are positive disruptors and changemakers. They naturally shake things up, asking us to dig deeper, rise up, and ask questions. (Cont'd in the book)
The second section of this book includes a collection of observations and reflections about how a “Strengths mindset” can best develop in each of us. This section is based on the epic coaching conversations I’ve had with people all over the world about their Strengths and the countless of hours of study and writing on this powerful tool.
The idea in both sections is to expand on the base that has created by Strengths ambassadors around the globe and the idea here is to explore each theme more deeply than ever. The idea is not to challenge the already established ideas regarding each of the 34 Strengths Themes. Instead, in the following pages, those original ideas will be built upon and, in some cases, unpacked more thoroughly than what is presently available online and in print.
