Publisher's summary

Small-town Steadfast, Wisconsin, has spent the last six years raising funds to help a medical student stay in med school. In return, the student contracted to practice medicine in the local clinic for the next six years. Kirsi Royston is that doctor, and now, she must tell the town she is leaving at summer's end. Family responsibilities demand she return to California. She promises she'll find a replacement and all will be well.

Kirsi is a dedicated doctor and a dutiful child. Her counterpart, known as Dr. Doug, is the same. His father died young, and his 80-something grandfather deserves to retire. In the midst of their conflict over Kirsi wanting to break the contract comes the unthinkable. Meth is creeping into the county, poisoning students at the local high school. And the local eccentric, a woman who has bullied the town for years, finds herself needing help. Kirsi wants to provide that - another reason for the townspeople to grumble.

But all is overshadowed by events. A teen nearly dies and then vanishes from the hospital. An anonymous dead body turns up.

Summer's End is the story of two very good people trying to please everyone but themselves. In the midst of a dangerous new situation in town, will they take a moment to discover what God wants for them?

The narrator ruins the book

This is one book in a clean romance series. It is possibly an enjoyable easy read, but not an enjoyable audible book because the narrator is terrible. All his voices sound like cartoon characters and the dialogue is stiff and unnatural. The romantic lead in this one, Dr Doug sounds like a goofy cartoon character and Veda, a female character sounds more masculine than Dr Doug. The minister sounds so nerdy that he ruins what should be should be sage biblical references and advice. If you hope to enjoy this series, read it, don’t listen to it in audible.

Story

I really like this series as it touches on so many different aspects of life. I enjoyed the mystery, community of characters, and it’s constant reminder to turn back to God.
