About this listen

Suffering from shock after Indians massacred her family before her eyes, Susannah is put into an insane asylum by a ruthless cousin. Susannah’s life just seems to spiral downhill, from one tragedy to another. When will her life finally turn around? She finds a glimmer of hope in her friendship with Ben. Will he be her saving grace? Or would it be the handsome Dr. Carter Harding? She discovers herself and her love on a rugged trip back to the scene of the tragedy. During the trip her life is spared yet again. She knows God has spared her for a reason, twice. Now she needs to do something with that spared life.

Great!

Barbara has delivered another wonderful Christian story. It is filled with love, faith and plenty of adventure.
Scott is a true professional narrator. He can definitely relate the feeling of the characters in his own voice. I was sorry for the story to end.

Double Stories

Listening to Sunshine in the Rain was very pleasant. Two books have now been combined into one. Susannah has witnessed a terrible tragedy, when her family was killed by Indians. Her dreams are nightmares and her cousin, who took her in, can no longer care for her. He commits her to an asylum, but things only get worse. Her doctor, Carter Harding takes more than a liking to her. Susanna‘s trouble don’t stop there, but Carter is there for her.
I was given a copy of this audiobook by the author for an honest review.

Fantastic

I listened to this one on audio. J Scott Bennett does a fantastic job of bringing this book to life.
As I started listening to the book, I wasn't sure if I wanted to listen to the rest to be honest. Such a tragedy. I won't give too much away. I think maybe this hit close to home. I know a few people with mental health issues, so I really related to this book. I thought Ms. Goss wrote this book really well and handled the interactions and characters wonderfully. I thought the emotions and reactions of the characters were spot on. I look forward to reading more in this series.

Entertaining, but a few historic stumbles

An entertaining "Perils of Pauline" style Western romance, set in 1878. The heroine is threatened with electro shock psychiatric treatment, which did not become common until the 1930s. Indeed, it was first performed in 1938.

Fantastic story!

Now this is just what the doctor ordered. Barbara Goss combines her two stories, Sunshine in the Rain and Yesterday's Rain and gave me a listen that was total enjoyment. Susannah witnessed the death of her family to the Indians and was sent to live with her cousin. His wife didn't want her around and had her committed to an asylum. The thing was, she wasn't crazy. Everyone deals with grief in their own way, and luckily, Dr. Carter Harding was there to realize this. But what he didn't realize was the pull Susannah had on his heart. When these two finally find their way to each other though, their happiness may be fleeting. Danger is lurking and they have no idea just how dangerous it can be. Will Carter figure it all out before it's too late and keep Susannah safe? I escaped into this story the minute it started. The visual Goss provides of the conditions patients dealt with during the time period is like a movie in my mind. I was right there, experiencing the relationships made, the pain that was felt and the budding love that was building. Then the building of suspense just when you thought they were going to live happily ever after! I loved this, the scenery, the story, the jealousy, the fear, the love and the faith. It's all there brought to life and was a joy to listen to.

J Scott Bennett is the perfect pick for this one! He is a favorite, and his voice fits historical romance perfectly. Each part of the story was vivid and the voices matched the characters with just the right amount of emotions. I enjoyed his performance!

Many twists

The many twists and turns had what would happen next. I like it in two separate sections. I also enjoy the reader. The narrative was very good.
