About this listen

Print edition 236 pages. The suburban community of Sea Breezes, located on a small island off the west coast of Florida, struggles to survive in the aftermath of a total Collapse of government, society, and the economy. A massive physical and cyber attack against the U.S. and the Western world by Islamic terrorists and their allies has destroyed communications, food production, and law and order. Individual neighbors in Sea Breezes step up and lead the community in their own fields of expertise. A retired Army Lieutenant Colonel leads scavenging patrols to the outlaw-controlled badlands; a former policewoman keeps discipline within the community; a nurse establishes a medical aid station; and a retired Marine Gunnery Sergeant manages the community’s security forces. Other homeowners work in areas necessary for everyone’s survival: guarding the community and fighting off attacks, hunting, fishing, and gardening. But their efforts simply are not enough, and slow starvation and disease looms. They desperately wait for help from a small Army force that landed at the airport in nearby Port Monroe, Florida, but it soon becomes evident that rescuing civilians is not part of the Army’s mission. For Sea Breezes, getting enough food and maintaining their security against vicious gangs and roaming outlaws, are becoming increasingly difficult, as their enemies also grow increasingly desperate. And what is the fledgling U.S. government's plan for recovery? Where will the priorities lie and who will be sacrificed? Time is running out for everyone on the island, and only the fittest will survive. How much longer can the 200 or so men, women, and children of Sea Breezes last? This is the conclusion of the Sea Breezes two-book set. Author’s Note: When I published "Defending Sea Breezes, a year and a half ago, I had no intention of doing a follow-on story. But I've had so many reviewers and friends ask me, "What happened next?" or "When is the next book coming out? or "I wish it were longer." I had moved on to another genre, publishing a novella, "The English Winemaker," but as the great reviews kept coming in (averaging 4.3 stars), I started thinking about how much more the survivors in Sea Breezes had to contend with. So, after a year of thinking about the tasks and trials that lay ahead for the community's residents, I decided to write the sequel- with a definitive conclusion. Although enough background is provided so that this book can be read as a stand-alone novel, readers may want to explore the origins and details of how Islamic terrorists aided by Iran and other enemies of America, were able to bring the country to its knees. The first novel also gives insights into the main characters, and how the concept of the plan to defend the community evolved, along with their early struggles. “Defending Sea Breezes” is the predecessor to this novel, and you can find it here: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01864XWFQ Post-Apocalyptic Science Fiction Island Military
