About this listen

Sometimes fate can get in the way of true love. It can slow it down, alter its course, or even misdirect it occasionally, but it cannot ever stop it. This was the kind of love Mary Broussard longed for, but she didn't have it yet. In the Summer of 1969, Mary, a Vietnam widow, is returning home from Woodstock, driving across the low country of Louisiana, heading home to Lafayette, with her three year old daughter, Lisa. She took the trip to avoid the ravages of Hurricane Camille, only to be ravaged and killed the night she returned home by an unknown killer and her took her body with him, leaving Lisa by herself. Lisa is raised by her grandparents a few hours away and fifteen years later, her parent's house is released to her from probate court. When she arrives with Jimmy, her boyfriend, they stumble across her old doll while at the property. Upon picking it up, she hears an old familiar voice, her mother's. Her spirit had been stranded there after fate had somehow allowed her to bind her spirit to what she knew was the closest thing to her daughter, her favorite doll, Suzie Q. After the shock and disbelief fades, they reluctantly agree to her her mother's spirit, helping her resolve her unfinished business. As they search for the truth, they all form a bond together with Mary's spirit. As she gains newfound strength as a spirit, she draws upon it to use her new spiritual abilities to accomplish what the living cannot, as they get closer to the truth. Further revelations come, as life and the afterlife both can become complicated. Join them as they journey across southern Louisiana in a multigenerational story of loss, hope and love, where true love is eventually found, defying everything that fate had thrown at them.
