Stone gets a turn

In Sweet Little Lies we get to know Stone while Jasper takes a back seat on gaining Beulah’s time. Beulah’s in need of rescuing once again but this time it’s Stone who is her savior. He’s offered her his home, gave her a job, and covered her expenses. Sound familiar? It should it’s everything Jasper did for her.

For one hot minute Beulah was in love with Jasper then she ran away with Stone. What the hot frickin minute Beulah, how could she so easily walk away from love, with no fight? She dropped him so quick I got whiplash.

I find with Abbi Glines books she drags out her storylines brushing aside the concept to work on building distractions. We met Stone in book 1 but Beulah found him to be mean and hateful. Apparently that was all an act. We meet a bunch more pathetic attractive characters with attitude and entitlement problems.
Abbi’s common theme is to tear down other women. Sure they are beautiful but they have baggage full of animosity and jealousy. Apparently Beulah’s the only character allowed to be both beautiful and kind. I felt there was too much beauty shaming.
Don’t get me started on Jasper. That poor guy was kicked to the curb after his mother dropped a bomb on them. Portia’s secret crucified him. For a girl professing her love in book 1 she was so quick to have a change of heart. When she cuts someone loose she cuts deep.
“Right now, I was weak, broken, and my heart was longing for a way to heal.” Not once did I read anything about her pain or emotional turmoil over leaving Jasper. In fact, she was so quick to leave him and assign blame on him for something he had no control over. Why is he being crucified for his mothers secrets? I’m confused by her behavior yet not surprised as it posed the perfect opportunity for Abbi to switch gears by having her spend time with Stone. So if your here expecting to see resolution with Jasper you won’t be getting any of that. However, if your here to see a different side of Stone then you are in luck. I on the other hand was not convinced that Stone’s character is this wonderful guy who just wants to protect both Jasper and Beulah.

“The idea of Stone shopping at Target made me grin. That seemed so out of place.” Pulled this from the book because this bothered me on so many levels. Again shaming him for shopping at Target just because he has money.

The one best thing about this book is the gorgeous cover. I hemmed and hawed the entire time listening to this audiobook. I was on edge with annoyance by the attention to details regarding clothes, appearances, and food.

She leaves readers with another cliffhanger. A story full of ridiculous drama. The secrets are never ending. There are four books in Sweet series. The first three are about Beulah, Stone, and Jasper. Book 4 is about Fiona.

Narrators:
Samantha Summers voiced Beulah’s character. I enjoyed the southern twang.
Kyle Munley was the voice of Jasper.
The same two narrators who performed book one narrated book 2. I enjoyed both voice over actors. This was a dual narration.
Audible provides the highest quality audio and narration. This was an unabridged audiobook. Listening time 6 hours 36 minutes. I listened at 2.3x speed reducing the listening time.
It’s times like these when I appreciate a good narration experience. Had it not been for these narrators I would’ve skimmed read this book. Instead I enjoyed listening to both narrators perform the scenes. They enhanced my listening experience with great voice actor skills. I appreciated these narrators taking the time to perform these characters scenes.

Secrets

This book picks right up where book one ended, the entirety behind the secret revealed will have you gasping. Nonetheless, it permanently ends the love she thought she found. Now picking up the pieces to her new life, she develops new relationships and discovers hidden feelings for Stone. However, she feels guilty as she is the reason why Jasper and Stone once best friends don't speak anymore. The ending of book two is ended on get another secret being revealed, but this one is done underhanded and with nothing but cruel intentions. I look forward to seeing the strength of the heroine come through in book three. The narrative is excellent.

Hmm Slightly Less of a Cliffhanger Part 2

After the devastation from the first book, I didn’t really know what to expect going into book two. (Drama) But it wasn’t what I expected. Remember when I said I didn’t feel the chemistry from Jasper and Beulah. I still don’t but I feel it coming off her and Stone that is for dang sure.

The situation has changed and new information is coming to light. I am not really sure who I want to see her with. I do know that for me I hope she picks the one that isn’t out to manipulate her and someone who will take care of her without wanting to change her.

I also would like to see more of her sister in book three; it makes me feel more connected to her when we see how much she loves her sister.

I guess the only way to know what is going to happen next is to get listening!

I again enjoyed the narration as I said before but again Kyle’s voice for me seems a little old for both Stone and Jasper’s voice. Maybe that is just me.

Not sure I can finish it

I love Abbi Glines! Seriously her books are great. But this one? I'm suffering through it waiting for the twist? I'm on chapter 13. This is really hard to listen to. I see the direction the story is going and I do not approve. How do you paint a guy the hero in one book than paint him as the villain in the next without reason? He was a victim to the lies as well but somehow he's treated like dirt. Did I miss were he cheated on her or did anything to hurt Beulah? I'm sorry, I'm team Jasper. He doesn't deserve Beulah's childish ways she is acting. Even if they are related, it's your cousin. Be a family. She had an amazing job making tons of $$, to be a maid again, and gave it up why? Does she honestly thing Jasper would fire her, his cousin, just because they aren't sleeping together anymore. I'm going to fast forward and pray this gets better. But so far this is the worse book i've read of Abbi's
