The original, authentic Carswell Mandate, a world-changing papyrus, is uncovered by Julia Carswell, the cousin of Steve Fisher. She is also the major donor to the Penn-Carswell Expedition, created to uncover precious objects first spotted by Steve. Julia is tortured and abducted by a violent fringe group of religious fanatics in order to retrieve the papyrus. The goal of the rogue RTI, or Return to Israel movement, is to use the papyrus to restore Israel’s boundaries, expel Palestinians, Muslims, and Arabs, from Israel, and return Jerusalem’s Temple Mount to the Jews. The RTI believes that if they can achieve their goal of building the Third Temple, the cataclysmic End Times will not occur. The RTI later abducts Steve in order to force him to enthusiastically participate, with Julia, in revealing the contents of the dangerous papyrus to the world. Julia and Steve escape and are pursued by the RTI, Arab terrorists, and the Mossad. They face danger on a fire escape, a serious car crash, and a trek in total darkness through Jerusalem’s biblical Hezekiah’s tunnel; they reach safety only to face both a religious and, then, a criminal trial.
