About this listen

The Possibility of Cognition is the English translation of the last section of the second part of the third book in the pentalogy titled The World in Nowhereness. Originally written in Serbian, this work is a long, philosophical, and reflexive poem. It features a variety of unique sestinas, including some that have never been used before, such as the quatro sestina, which consists of 588 verses, organized into 24 stanzas with 24 verses each, plus an envoi with twelve verses. This is the first sestina of its kind. This complex and philosophical poem explores truth, knowledge, and enlightenment themes. These poems try to reach and demystify the world's mysteries, offering a unique cosmogony that tries to get closer to the origins of the world and the acts of creation. The poem is a profound contemplation on the nature of the Universe, light and darkness, and our understanding of the world. All this is accomplished with superb imagery, metaphors, and other poetic devices.

Throughout the book, the mystical traveler longs for the light of wisdom to enlighten his journey through the unknown territories of the Universe and his own. Light, as one of the recurring motifs in the poem, emerges from darkness. Precisely in the same way, the light starts shining from darkness, and the understanding moves from confusion to clarity. In this way, the poet shows us that even truth can be deceptive sometimes. Human beings are limited and susceptible to the complexities of perception and our understanding.

The image of a rose symbolizes the beauty of revelation. The mystical traveler desires the divine light to illuminate his path and insights into the nature of the Universe in his quest for a deeper understanding of the world and its meaning and purpose. The poem conveys a profound intellectual and spiritual journey in search of truth with the awareness that the ultimate truth may stay distant and unreachable because of the limitations of human cognition and capacity to grasp the immense mystery of the Universe in all its totality and grandiosity.

Still, light is not only the source of life but the symbol of hope. All that exists and lives, in some way, is connected to light. The Universe is one interconnected organism of which human beings are a small part but play an essential role in the world governed by one Universal Mind from which everything comes and to which everything returns.
Understanding and resolving the most profound mysteries and acquiring wisdom for such demanding tasks requires resolve, courage, and solitude. Ethics and aesthetics play a crucial role in the lives of human beings and are the essential elements connected to the purpose and meaning of life.
