About this listen

Nina Epps married too young, to the wrong man, and for all the wrong reasons. Now, years later, she’s stuck with a lazy, womanizing husband who still tries to control her life. Meanwhile, her grown daughter is following a similarly destructive path, throwing away a bright future for a no-good partner. For the first time, Nina’s quiet spirit is stirring, urging her to wake up, reclaim her life, and seize the happiness she’s long denied herself—if it’s not already too late.

Dr. Richard Vincent thought marriage meant building a life with someone who had his back, but instead, he got a wife, her freeloading sister, and a cunning, overbearing mother-in-law who rules the roost. For years, Richard has sacrificed his peace of mind for the sake of his son, playing the “yes” man to keep the family harmony intact. But when a devastating betrayal robs him of everything he thought he had, he’s left to pick up the pieces of a life shattered beyond recognition.

When life’s unexpected twists bring Nina and Richard together, they discover not just a way out of their struggles but a way into something extraordinary. As they face the challenges ahead, they uncover love’s profound ability to heal, restore, and sustain—even when the future feels uncertain.

Taken for Granted is an unforgettable story of resilience, hope, and the courage it takes to embrace life’s second chances.

The author did a fabulous job reading the book! the Chicago area references hit home for me growing up in the city and then Northwest Suburbs! The characters were great and storyline too! Keep the books coming!

I enjoyed this book and the narration. The characters were interesting and developed as people and the plot was captivating. I listened to it in three days because I wanted to know what was going to happen to the no good mama or what was going to become of the main characters relationship after the Bahamas. Highly recommended.

Compelling storytelling

It’s an emotional rollercoaster I didn’t see coming. Sewell not only wrote it but narrated it brilliantly, giving each character a unique voice and soul. The story pulled me in completely, with unexpected twists and an ending that left me thinking long after it was over. I couldn’t wait to get to the next chapter. Beautifully written, deeply felt, and masterfully told.

Glad Richard and Nina come together as a couple. I love how they had so much passion and love for each other . Ruby Lee .. Earl is a great writer. Love Manhunt and Lenne Gray.

Great story. Engaging, suspenseful, and realistic. At times the rhythm of the reading threw me, but mostly gave me the opportunity to slow down and stay present. Some of the accents felt slightly off, but this narrator's voice is smooth and appealing. Looking forward to more creative works by this author.

This is an engaging story. I quickly found myself invested in the characters and storyline.
