About this listen

Including stories from paradise and hard-won lessons in seamanship,Taleisin's Tales reflects back to the first miles Lin and Larry Pardey gained together on the second boat they built lovingly with teak carvel planking over sawn black locust frames.

The book includes details from outfitting, provisioning, and final detailing during the early months Lin and Larry spent getting to know their new bluewater cruiser, as well as moments of melancholy as they let go of attachments to their first trusty boat, Seraffyn.

The story takes the listener through those initial cautious 1000 coastal miles between California and the Sea of Cortez, discussing everything from sail handling to dinghy racing to the relative luxuries of bicycles and a custom-built sitztub. It reveals surprising and pleasant engagements with other sailors and locals along the Baja Peninsula. Then it launches the listener across the Pacific, sailing with the Pardeys on Taleisin's first offshore leg to French Polynesia, through the Cook Islands and Tonga, and on to New Zealand, where they eventually made their new home.

If there is a lesson to be gained from listening to Taleisin's Tales, it's that slowing the pace and taking each day as it comes brings unexpected moments of clarity and joy. And that sailing across an ocean on a small boat is not easy but, with the right partner and attitude, can be beautifully rewarding.

A nice mix of adventure and information.

Being a repeat listener of Cruising in Serrafyn i found this book a lot more informative rather than just a narrative about their sailing adventure south.
For example Lin often explains their thought process for decisions they made during the voyage which makes you feel more like a part of the crew than just a listener.
In my opinion the narration was sub par, but i dont think it took too much away from the book. Bring back Kitty Hendrix!
I really enjoyed this book and of course highly reccommend it.

A different kind of fantastic voyage....

...but fantastic all the same. Loved it. For a few precious hours, I lived the life of a ocean crusier.

Brings you right along!

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

This book was such a delight to read. It was like being brought along for the cruise!

Have you listened to any of Michelle Murillo’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

I have not yet, but I loved her happy reading style.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

The descriptions of the bonds Lin and Larry formed while cruising in the French Polynesia.

Any additional comments?

This book helped remind me that my dream is still to one day cruise!

Another awesome Pardey book

Reader was slightly too "perky" for the tone of the book, excellent book. My wife and I are ready to leave the dock lines behind!

Very well written. Loved it

The stories and analogies are very well written. Lin and Larry do a great job providing sailing tips, insight and adventure.
Very inspirational and extremely well balanced with honest mistakes and insights as well as praise for getting it right.

Makes me wish I was this type of modern day sailor. I can't wait to follow the path The Pardey's took

Narration

The story was a good one with some sections that were very gripping. The narration, although pleasantly voiced, was definitely the wrong tone for the book imo.

The reader ruined the experience

The story was ok, but the reader frankly slanted my opinion on the book and was distracting from start to end.
