About this listen

The Tales from Wyoming are a collection of interconnected short stories of the Old West. Each story combines some fiction with some legend with a liberal dose of real history. The adventure begins A Good Man found in Volume One.

A Celebration

Alice Potter and the Wyoming Girl Guards are presenting the state flag during the Wyoming Statehood Celebration in July, 1890. When she is enchanted by two men, her thoughts are turned away from her fiancé, Chris Hatch. Who will she chose?

With the backdrop of violence between the cattle barons and the homesteaders, Jeremiah Sandburg has a new plan for his city, Casper. His plan will make Casper into the wealthiest city in the country.

A Range War

The early 1890’s were a violet time for Wyoming. The open range cattle barons of the past came head to head against the new homesteaders. Blood stained the prairie and a new breed of outlaws moved into the new state. Government corruption and lax law and order left the citizens unprotected until the Army took control.

A Train Robber

In 1896, a rustler is pardoned by the Wyoming Governor and released from prison. Opportunities for a lawful life abound, yet circumstances turn him back to a life of crime. When he becomes the most wanted outlaw in the nation, wanted dead or live, he must run for his life.

A Hired Gun

For a decade, Tom Horn had hunted outlaws and rustlers in Wyoming. He was the quintessential gun-for-hire. And then, at the turn of the century, he fell in love. With a wife at his side, he planned to transform into a family man and gentleman rancher. However, he knew too much. His former employers could not allow him to live. Would a woman’s love kill him?

A Scandal

In the spring of 1922, Wyoming oil baron, Morgan Sandburg, surveys his drilling rigs in the Salt Creek oil field. His curiosity is piqued when he observes the strange behavior of his neighbor. Abandoning his gasoline powered truck, he returns to the days of old and mounts a horse to investigate.

What he finds will scandalize the nation and threaten William Harding’s presidency.
