About this listen

Lestrade realized abruptly that he was not alone. He turned to face his assailants. Outnumbered, he braced himself for an unfair fight with no delusions of winning. Light glinted off metal as one of the men drew a blade, and Lestrade realized that he was in for more than just a beating - these men fully intended to kill him.

London. 1867. Against the advice of his senior partner and mentor, newly promoted Inspector Lestrade agrees to look into a case no one else wants, only to find that there is more to investigate than a simple disappearance, and that his fellow Inspectors may not be as trustworthy as they seem. Determined to carry on, uncertain who to trust, Lestrade faces danger and corruption both in the city - and within Scotland Yard itself.

Great to have some background to the Inspector

It was a great idea, showing us Lestrade as a rookie inspector. I found it to be a well thought out story, and enjoyed the opportunity to see him as other than the bumbler Holmes makes him out to be. I love the hints of trauma growing up, that help make him a more fully fleshed out character.

Now let me discuss the narrator. He didn’t misread or mispronounce TOO many words. However, his voice was like fingernails on the chalkboard of my soul. His accent just annoyed me. The only reason I listened all the way to the end was that I got a free copy of this audiobook in exchange for an honest review.

But I will not be relistening to this audiobook. If the author has more books, I’ll probably read them in book or ebook format. But your mileage may vary, so you might want to give this a try.

A tale of Inspector Lestrade

First of all, the story is spectacular and truly does transport you to 19th century London. I love the banter between the Yarders, and the characters are well developed. Absolutely delightful!

However, the narrator is dreadful, plain and simple. Tone is terrible, character voice is inconsistent, and he changes character names within the same scene. I hope better talent can be obtained for future stories from this author.

Outstanding story…

Tale of a young Lestrade, when he just became an Inspector. It is his first case as an Inspector; and has to find out who to trust.

Truly fantastic. I enjoyed so much this deeper look at Lestrade and his first months in the Yard! The pacing of the story is great, the atmosphere beautifully achieved and the characters, all of them but particularly Lestrade's sister, feel real.

I really hope this author will write more books in this Universe :D

Tales of Scotland Yard by Bianca Jenkins is a very entertaining story of the early days for the newly promoted Insp. Lestrade. The narration by Jonathan Allen Nelson was great. I felt like I was in the midst of the action.
