Publisher's summary

It was a world of magic with a beautiful green-haired woman who needed Mike’s help and would do almost anything to get it. Mike was a hard-boiled cop who didn’t believe in magic – until he was brought to her world and had his nose rubbed in it. This wasn’t going to be anything like the police work he was used to. The beautiful green-haired woman was a Rhadamantha – a woman with a store of magical power that she can’t use herself, but which goes to the first man she consents to lie with. If he’s her destined mate, then the pair become an extremely powerful entity. Most often, a Rhadamantha’s first mate will be the local wizard, seeking to increase his power. Amaranna called for Mike because she wasn’t going to submit to the wizard; she wanted her destined mate. She just couldn’t explain that to him, so he assumed she was simply seeking a bodyguard. That was fine; it was just ‘serve and protect’ in a different set of situations. Escaping the land of Irrelan ahead of the wizard was comparatively simple, if you didn’t count the dead bodies. Once they found a safe haven in the Witchy and actually consummated their relationship, the assassins began arriving. Mike is a very controlled sort of fellow, but even his patience has limits. When Kallendor, the wizard who had been keeping Amaranna, joined forces with several other wizards to mount a concerted attack on the Witchy, those limits were passed. That’s when Kallendor found out that Mike was a very dangerous man who knew a number of things that his enemies couldn’t begin to comprehend.
