About this listen

Embark on an exhilarating journey through the cosmos in this enthralling science fiction novel. This thriller presents an eerily believable vision of the 22nd century, during which celestial mysteries and hidden conspiracies collide to challenge the very essence of human nature.

Meet Traver Graff, a hugely popular social critic, who unexpectedly finds himself hurtling through space at the behest of the mysterious Aurora Corporation. As his journey unfolds, he finds himself caught in a paradox between his long-standing convictions and the alien wonders he finds amongst the stars. But that's not all; back on Earth, the intrepid reporter Callie dares to delve into the heart of darkness, fearlessly unmasking the elusive machinations of the enigmatic corporation.

In parallel, Graff's faithful assistant, Lance - along with the indomitable Captain Louisa Fletcher - face mounting turmoil as their ship approaches the strange planet AMA-712, where Traver begins to behave in ways that only he seems to understand.

In Talking Man, Broadhead entwines thrilling cosmic mystery with hard-edged human intrigue, crafting a gripping narrative that will keep you riveted until the very end. Brace yourself to question your deepest beliefs as sanity is tested, secrets are unearthed, and the characters learn just how far humanity is willing to go for the sake of science and discovery.

Ray Bradbury Reincarnated (and that’s doing this audiobook a disservice)

John M. Broadhead is a brilliant NEW author in Sci-fi, but you’d never know it. He has the classic polish, gorgeous prose, existential mystery, and detailed political intrigue rivaling the classic science fiction writers of our time—all with an innovative and cool modern swagger. His writing is like James SA Corey, Tarantino and Ray Bradbury co-authored a new Sci-fi IP.

But, Broadhead’s own distinct artistic flare is really the secret sauce that makes this awesome, tight, yet epic science-fiction masterpiece work. He has a wonderful way of letting the characters tell their own stories, and very quickly they irrecoverably run away with the plot — and I couldn’t have been happier.

All of his characters are deeply and profoundly flawed, and that is what makes them so great. You can pretty much root for everyone, and also be appalled at their behavior. It’s nuanced, human, and absolutely delicious.

And the narration… God… the narration. The incredible characters, prose, tight action, and brilliant science-fiction world-building are stunningly brought to life by the masterful performance of Mikhail Roberts. His smooth yet intense quality is perfect for the genre, reminding me of more famous narrators like Seth Numrich, Steven Weber, or Jefferson Mays.

These two, individually, are worth their weight in gold. But, together they’ve made an audiobook that far surpasses the sum of its already genius parts. This audiobook is beyond worth it. Give it your attention, your time, and your wallet. These gentlemen have more than earned it. Bravo.
