About this listen

Hunter Townsend loves his new home in the small town of Shadows Landing. It’s his sanctuary when he comes home from a mission as part of his Special Forces team. Maggie, the infuriating, monogram loving, bright color wearing, cuter than she should be woman, who loves to tease him was the only issue in Shadows Landing. Until a mission goes wrong . . .

Maggie Bell is an Olympic sharpshooter and is getting ready to go for the gold once again. She loved nothing more than letting the handsome, yet cocky Hunter put his foot in his mouth over and over again by not telling him she was a better shot than he was. He just kept digging that hole and she just kept smiling. While everyone groaned when Maggie and Hunter started verbally sparring, Maggie loved it. She’d earn Hunter’s respect when he saw her win gold. That is, if anyone finally tells him she’s in the Olympics.

But that all seems inconsequential when Shadows Landing becomes a target. Now will Hunter and Maggie put their verbal sparring aside and find the threat before they end up in the crosshairs?

Good shot

Kathleen Brooks is great at developing characters. That continues to show and she did a good job of incorporating real world events so the adventure is believable and exciting. The disarming of the bombs was just super simplistic and how real is it for Maggie alone in a whole busy stadium to hear and react to the shout of bomb?

Birth Control Desperately Needed

While the overwhelming majority of the story was engrossing and entertaining, Shadows Landing is in desperate need of a family planning clinic to provide birth control products and lessons.

When a soldier has EIGHT children he could not afford to support and was forced to take on dangerous missions for the additional income, I wanted to slap him silly. He was rarely home to spend time with his young children; evidently he was just home long enough to get his wife pregnant again.

This series promotes community service, friendship, kindness, self-sufficiency and loyalty. I am disappointed that it does NOT promote responsible adult sexual activity and family planning, in spite of all the options available with modern medicine.

PS, Glad the author included 2 lesbian characters from her Kentucky series, proving that Southerns can be open-minded.

Shadows Landing is my favorite series and this one stands out with its humor.

Love this town’s characters so much. Love the mystery and happy/drama-free romance. An easy listen.

Great story and plot

The story was great and the narrator was good. The only problem is that the pauses between chapters is so long you think something is wrong.

WOW!

I keep wondering how a series can keep getting better, but Kathleen Brooks pulls it off with a bang! I read a LOT of books and some stick with me some don't. Well, I have yet to find one in her series that doesn't make me want to move to these two towns. We are meeting yet another Townsend man in a family of nine and it's so worth the ride. This book hits all the feels from the highs and the lows, then brings you down to ground level with a lovely HEA for two deserving people. The laughter and the shedding of tears are all worth sticking around for and the surprises along the way...OUTSTANDING! I think a great story makes you want to live within the pages and Ms. Brooks never lets me down. Every single book so far has been worth the time and money I've invested into them. You will find yourself doing re-reads after re-reads and never getting tired of the action, love, and life within each story.

Eric G. Dove does an outstanding, competent, and consistent job with each book. So worth a listen!

I would recommend starting with the Bluegrass Series and working your way through all the books.
