Publisher's summary

After World War II revealed their existence, the Fae of mythology and folklore were thrust into human society. Resettled in America, the Fae have mostly refused to integrate with their human counterparts.

But Adelaide, granddaughter of the Queen of the Nymph Court, has been living a content life in Boston amongst friends, lovers, and a bustling coffee shop. Her mixed heritage has allowed her to spend most of her life avoiding royal commitments. Until now.

The queen must change the inheritance laws, requiring Adi to rejoin the confines of etiquette, obligation, and the occasional torture session.

Forced to take consorts, Adi finds herself surrounded by male nymphs seeking power and passion. However, when a revolutionary group approaches her, Adi’s life gets a whole lot more interesting. And when the dark and brooding Captain Bryn’s aura starts to intertwine with hers, Adi begins to question everything.

With her homelands—and bedroom—in chaos and ripe for rebellion, the future of the Fae rests solely on her. Adi must decide: Does she want the throne, or does she want to see the downfall of the monarchy?

You need this in your life

I listened to this in just under 6 hours. (I’m a 1.2-1.5 kinda girl) and let me tell you…. Mild spoilers ahead.

Adelaide is an impressively vicious, smart, beautiful, sweet, curvy goddess and if I had half the chance!

Bryn is me. That’s all there is to it. Stubborn, shy, reclusive and his communication drives me up the wall. But the way he loved Adelaide makes everything so much better

Osmund is the glue. This is my MANS big and sweet and hot. Everything that left that man’s mouth I ate like a starving woman. How he made everything sound sexy. EVERYTHING. Is beyond me.
Tilly did amazing with this I cannot wait to read book 2.

The narrators ability to voice all of them so distinctly and differently is the most impressive thing I’ve heard in a while I forgot sometimes it was one person lol!
10/10 recommend
Spice is off the charts and the tension is THICK.

Stunning audiobook performance

I listened entirely to this on audio (thanks to the author for the ALC) and I have to say first of all that Roxanne Deveraux gives the best audio performance I think I’ve ever listened to. Her ability to do the different voices for the characters— including convincing male voices and extended passages in a Norwegian baritone— is absolutely astounding. Is this her first audio book? Cause I’m going to need her to record at least ten more immediately, please and thank you. Five stars for the performance.

3.5 stars rounded up for the book. The characters are compelling and the world they live in is fascinating. In many ways this story feels like what Anita Blake’s Merry Gentry story should have been? My one big issue was that there’s too much time spent on details we absolutely don’t need— what everyone looks like, what they’re wearing, in depth anecdotes from Adi’s past about all sorts of weird random stuff like her coffee shop employees we don’t even properly meet— and then less energy and description is spent on proper worldbuilding things, like the different fae species (I still don’t know what a joint-eater is and I had to look up a bunch of things), what exactly Adi’s role as a priestess entails, or why the hell everyone gets horny if anyone is mad? Or details felt buried, like how Adi’s aunts were trying to kill her. I spent most of the book not sure why the EA was even organizing a rebellion in the first place. But I’m definitely invested! Why am I such a sucker for a big Viking cinnamon roll? And Bryn is wonderfully angsty. I just wish we’d seen the two of them bond more, rather than being told about it… and then had Adi’s breakfast described in detail. I hope the next audio version comes out soon, I want to wait for it, but I might not have the patience!
