About this listen

The story begins in 1838, during the Cherokee Indian Removal in Murray County, Georgia. It continues into the Civil War, when a mysterious scar-faced man murders Reese Owens’ family and leaves Reese for dead.

Confederate Major Tom “Polk” Edmondson and the North Georgia Scouts stumble upon Reese and doctor him back to health. Reese remains with Polk during the final year of the Civil War as he continues to search for the mysterious killer of his family.

After the war the killer comes to realize Reese is still alive. In his twisted mind, he believes Reese is the only one remaining who can lead him to a valuable treasure, kept secret by Reese’s mother and father.

In the end Reese discovers the motive behind the deranged killer’s murder of his family, and the origin of his parents' closely guarded secret.
