About this listen

Miss Fisher meets Downton Abbey in Tell Me No Lies, part of the critically acclaimed Lady Dunbridge Mystery series from New York Times best-selling author Shelley Noble.

Rise and shine, Countess, you’re about to have a visitor.

Lady Dunbridge was not about to let a little thing like the death of her husband ruin her social life. She’s come to New York City, ready to take the dazzling world of Gilded Age Manhattan by storm. The social events of the summer have been amusing, but Lady Phil is searching for more excitement - and she finds it, when an early morning visitor arrives begging for her help. After all, Lady Phil has been known to be useful in a crisis. Especially when the crisis involves the untimely death of a handsome, young business tycoon.

His death could send another financial panic through Wall Street and beyond.

With the elegant Plaza Hotel, Metropolitan Museum of Art, and the opulent mansions of Long Island’s Gold Coast as the backdrop, romance, murder, and scandals abound. Someone simply must do something. And Lady Dunbridge is happy to oblige.

I truly enjoy reading all of Shelley’s books as she is very descriptive. I am very engaged and learn new things and here new words that intrigue me.

This book and, “Ask me no Questions” kept me in a wonderful land of families, friends and murder solving. The stories are great & the reader, Erin Bennett is a wonder at voices! I want to continue with these characters people into a third mystery!

I just love reading Shelley Noble’s books!

I really enjoyed this book & the narrator was great! There are a lot of characters & I definitely get the names mixed up a bit but the story line was interested & I am looking forward to the next in the series!

Great listen!

This book was very well written, twists and turns will keep you guessing! Also well performed.
It also presented a snapshot of how life was for women a hundred years ago. We might like the fashions, but I don’t think any of us women would like to truly live that way!
Enjoyable!

Excellent!

Only drawback is that there isn’t a real ‘ah-ha’ moment with the reveal. For me, I think this is because it feels like in the end it isn’t one great detective revealing who is the bad one, but it feels instead like the group just got to the part where the story ends. Feels a bit artificial.

Solid story, well read

Another tangled web but with such a great cast of characters! Murder and mayhem with a wonderful narrator!

Great

Although the narrator made too frequent weird substitutions of wrong words for, I assume, the words that were written, she wasn’t bad enough for me to completely pan her. And I do enjoy the characters, the settings, and the stories. There is a subplot that is developing, at least through these first two books, so on to Book 3.

Good story, annoying narration

Like the first book, the historical details are interesting and the female characters smart and determined, but the subplot with "Mr. X" seems cloying and out of character for Phil. Definitely won't pay for the next in the series, though I might listen if it's available through my library.

Good historical detail, annoying subplot

but the story and characters (apart from Lily and Preswick) were ridiculous. It’s a bad sign when the supporting characters are more fun to read about than the main character. The cover art was beautiful and the narration was excellent, but that’s not enough to recommend it.

Well, the narration was excellent....
