Publisher's summary

Lieutenant Colonel Eric West is the clinical director of the Combat Casualty Research Center (CCRC), an elite group of emergency physicians who provide operational medical support for the United States military, the FBI, the DEA, the ATF, and the Secret Service. Deployed throughout the world on a moment's notice, Eric begins to note a series of unusual deaths. Federal agents are dying from massive thromboses, their bodies solidifying into a mass of necrotic tissue.

Dr. West discovers that some form of deadly thrombotoxin is being used as a weapon of mass destruction...but there is a link. The primary targets were employed by the CIA during the 1980s, working a Russian access agent known as GTVIPER.

Allen Prescott, the president of the United States, knows who GTVIPER was as deputy chief of station in Moscow. He was a GRU scientist working on a thrombotoxin that was immediately lethal, like a chemical agent, but theoretically possible to induce immunity, like a biologic agent. It was the ultimate weapon, but failure to develop a reliable means to immunize troops arrested any further development.

GTVIPER was believed to be dead. Somehow, he had not only survived but had also learned to immunize himself against the deadly toxic. He was loose in the United States and killing at will. But why? Why was he eliminating all the members of the CIA support group?

Dr. West races against the clock to discover a means to fight the deadly toxin, prevent the assassination of the president of the United States, and discover the motivation that drives a man of science to kill. GTVIPER leads the CCRC team on a frightening and deadly adventure, culminating in the unthinkable....

Captivating

This book kept me anxious to hear the next chapter and I finished it in just a few days. It was interesting how the chapters would weave the story while going from past to present time. I was really impressed with how the author incorporated historical facts, and the depth of the medical detail was intriguing to me. I definitely was not expecting the ending which was exciting. Overall, I really enjoyed the book and would highly recommend it!

Interesting Thriller!

Lieutenant Colonel Eric West, head of the elite emergency doctors to the US military and other specific organizations within the US Government, has taken notice of some peculiar deaths that indicate GTViper is alive and has a deadly vendetta. Having survived an assassination attempt, GTViper has set into motion a lethal toxin that will leave a wide path of death and destruction. He is set on revenge for the death of his love and this time, no one will stand in his way. Pitted against one another, it is a race against time to see who will win and who will lose.

The author, Curt Samlaska, provides an edge-of-your-seat thriller. Samlaska takes his time building the situation, characters and ending. We all want a bad guy – a villain but Samlaska takes that away from us and gives us the insight into the why of it all eliciting sympathy. The listener is forced to decide who the true bad guy is.

The narrator, Kevin Clay, provides a rich experience for his listeners. His voices are well done and with proper accents for each character. Clay gives a strong performance with a cadence that allows the listener to delve deeply into the story.

The audio production and quality of this audiobook were ok. There were some issues early on with some white noise. A little further in, I’m not sure the attempts of sound effects were really needed as the story and narrator were perfect for keeping the audience’s attention.

Listen or Read This Book! It’s a Killer Good Time!!

I finished Terminal Cascade and I was sad that my listening journey came to an end. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and getting to know all of the characters, and learning a lot about how government agencies work undercover in various countries. I also loved the science and medical tie-ins that were explained so well that I could understand. The action was non-stop, and had some twists I wasn’t predicting!

The audio production was very well done. This is not the first book that I have listened to with sound effects; I recently finished Daisy Jones & The Six and it had sound effects as well. I love when sound effects are paired with the story to create a cinematic setting in my mind as I’m listening. And I could not believe the range of accents that the narrator was able to pull off. I have only two accents: 1. my adopted West Coast accent that has flavors of the south, and 2. my straight up Sweet Home Alabama accent that comes out when I’m talking to friends back home, or after a few glasses of wine.

For me, the most amazing part Terminal Cascade was how the main character was finally able to desensitize himself in two ways, physically and emotionally. I won’t go into specifics because I don’t want to give any spoilers, but GTVIPER really connected with me on a personal level. As someone who was diagnosed with PTSD a little over four years ago after witnessing a suicide, I greatly related to GTVIPER’s deep and dark feelings of anger, anxiety, and revenge which GTVIPER was experiencing at many moments throughout the book. It made me very curious if the author had experienced some deep level of trauma to be capable of being so specific in some of the descriptions of events related to GTVIPER‘s PTSD.

I certainly hope this thrombotoxin doesn’t become a reality one day because of the global damage it capable of! But, heck, who would’ve ever thought that a coronavirus could shut down the entire world for over a year? Better read or listen to this book to figure out what you need to do to be prepared!

WOW! Bio-Weapons, Love & Governments

I would have to say the 3 things I will be taking away from "terminal Cascade" is:
1. We all have a deep drive and need for freedom, no matter where you are from.
2. We LOVE, We want to protect the ones we love, and will do any thing to insure their safety and well being.
3. Governments and government polices can change.
"Terminal Cascade" I read it in 2 days. Just get it, it's that good.

Suspenseful book w/ Murder Betrayal & Deadly Toxin

This truly was a great book to listen to. With my job I spend a lot of time driving so I end up listening to a fair amount of audiobooks to help pass the time. Having a good narrator for me can make or break a book. And the Narrator did a fantastic job and this book is a Graphic Audio book, also known as “Full Cast” or “Dramatized”. Which means that it includes music, sound effects, and voice modulation. I have listened to other Graphic Audio books and they’re a great way to get pulled into the story. If you listen to the audiobook I’d recommend jumping o Amazon and reading the preface first because it gives some great information about the book and how it was written. Let me tell you this book has something for everyone: murder, betrayal, revenge, and history. One of my favorite parts was learning about toxins and how they work. I am in the medical industry so I enjoy learning about how different chemical agents interact with the human body and this toxin nearly scared the pants off of me. I think the reality of this book became even more real to me because of the current climate that we’re in with the Coronavirus. When you think about how devastating Corona has been the thought of this toxin being released would decimate our population. This is a definite must read or listen to in my situation, and I look forward to following this author to see what he comes up with next.

Adrenaline-fueled storyline!

From the beginning to the end I enjoyed this adrenaline-fueled novel with its many twists and turns.Filled with espionage, betrayal and revenge the characters are pulled through worlds of good and evil. The author weaves the chilling storyline with numerous historical facts. It starts during the
Cold War and as the story evolves we are transported “on-the-edge-of-our-seat” to
present day.
Note: I like the added background sounds throughout this audio book as it added more
dimension to spoken word. This would be a great book for a book club!

Bioweapon Thriller

This book has you on the edge of your seat with each chapter! It has everything you could think of for a book: politics, medicine, religion, military, government, fiction, history, nonfiction, romance, eroticism, just to name a few. The narrator does an amazing job with all of the many characters and their accents. The audio does some sound effects, and it really adds a cool, unique feature to the listen. The author is a well renowned, highly medically published, and incredibly competent dermatologist in southern Nevada. He has a previous book titled Eucarion, which is unfortunately not available on audio.
