About this listen

At a New England boarding school, a sex scandal is about to break. Even more shocking than the sexual acts themselves is the fact that they were caught on videotape. A Pandora's box of revelations, the tape triggers a chorus of voices - those of the men, women, teenagers, and parents involved in the scandal - that details the ways in which lives can be derailed or destroyed in one foolish moment.

Writing with a pace and intensity surpassing even her own greatest work, Anita Shreve delivers in Testimony a gripping emotional drama with the impact of a thriller. No one more compellingly explores the dark impulses that sway the lives of seeming innocents, the needs and fears that drive ordinary men and women into intolerable dilemmas, and the ways in which our best intentions can lead to our worst transgressions.

Wow. Reminds us of the ripple effect of our a too

Pointss out interconectivity as we selfishly pursue our adolescent obsessions, the extreme idolatry of woman.

Sad life changing happening

Each chapter was intriguing. Young love and contrast that with the discontent of married parents. What is the whole story. The author only reveals a bit at a time. A page turner

A view from both sides of the tragedy

This was such a tragic story -- similar to the news stories we see about boys in private schools and their abuse of women. I have always been repulsed by these stories, so it was interesting to hear it from the other side. Lives ruined and/or sidetracked =- much of it due to alcohol.

Testimony of testimony

A good story. Felt a little choppy at times. Especially when it would jump to the background story. I would have to go back over it a second time. Once I understood the order I enjoyed it very much. I really enjoyed the different actors. It really brought it to life!

A quiet and thoughtful story

Makes you think about consequences, what ifs, causes and effects. It was sometimes slow, and several of the voices (particularly Silas's) did not fit the characters. On the other hand, Sienna's voice (one of the most difficult to cast, I imagine) was perfect. Rob's mother's story was told in 2nd person, which was offputting for me. The story itself was complex and told in segments which sometimes were confusing as to chronology, but all in all, it was a good experience.

True to life

Every action has consequences and this book shows how its effects can change an entire town. I like the fact that there were no clear villains and victims, but of the latter there were many. The narration brought it altogether and it was a good decision to use different narrators for many of the characters; it felt more personal.
