About this listen
Starring Sherlock Holmes, this tale is based on a real-life ghost story from West Virginia. The basis of the story comes from a court case in the 19th century in which the testimony of a ghost was entered into evidence, leading to the conviction of a murderer. Jonathan Maberry has thrown Holmes and Watson into the mix for added punch.
This story was originally published in the collection Tales from the Fire Zone.

Story
Ryland Grace is the sole survivor on a desperate, last-chance mission - and if he fails, humanity and the Earth itself will perish. Except that right now, he doesn't know that. He can't even remember his own name, let alone the nature of his assignment or how to complete it. All he knows is that he's been asleep for a very, very long time. And he's just been awakened to find himself millions of miles from home, with nothing but two corpses for company.

Six days ago, astronaut Mark Watney became one of the first people to walk on Mars. Now, he's sure he'll be the first person to die there. After a dust storm nearly kills him and forces his crew to evacuate while thinking him dead, Mark finds himself stranded and completely alone with no way to even signal Earth that he’s alive - and even if he could get word out, his supplies would be gone long before a rescue could arrive. Story
Jazz Bashara is a criminal. Well, sort of. Life on Artemis, the first and only city on the moon, is tough if you're not a rich tourist or an eccentric billionaire. So smuggling in the occasional harmless bit of contraband barely counts, right? Not when you've got debts to pay and your job as a porter barely covers the rent. Everything changes when Jazz sees the chance to commit the perfect crime, with a reward too lucrative to turn down.

Pleasantly surprised
I wasn’t sure if I would like this or not but I took a chance and I’m so glad I did. It was great to have a new story about Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson. Especially one that has a little bit of spookiness to it. I think I’ve seen and read most everything there is from, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle regarding Sherlock Holmes. This author seems to really get how to write Sherlock and Dr. Watson. I’m so glad he is continuing on with the stories and bringing Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson back to life.

A good story but...
The story was an interesting one but unfortunately I wasted a credit as it was already in another 1 of the compilations I used 1 of my credits for.

A Holmes and Watson mystery!
The Adventure of the Greenbrier Ghost
By: Jonathan Maberry
Narrated by: Tom Weiner
I didn't know this was a Sherlock & Watson book until it started. I also loved the cover. This has Holmes and Watson in the US and responding to a call of help from a ghost. A mother lost a daughter and the woman swears that the young woman's ghost come to her and tells her what happened, how she died. That the brutal husband killed her. Since Watson and Holmes neither believe in ghosts but they take the job of finding her killer anyway. Everyone thinks she just fell down the stairs.
Great shorter book and who doesn't love Holmes and Watson!

Worth listening to for free!
It was interesting and the price was right. But truth be told, I was drawn in because I thought it may have to do with The Greenbriar resort in West Virginia, which it doesn’t.

Not very suspenseful
The plot reads like it was planned by a precocious 9 year old who passed it on the a superb word artist. Well written with great dialog but the action is linear s as nd the characters flat.

It’s okay
It’s not like a normal Holmes tale, where he actually solves a mystery. Some details didn’t add up, which annoyed the Sherlock nerd in me, but for free, it was okay, and entertained me on my drive while running errands.
