About this listen

From the pen of America's master, Mark Twain, comes this classic and beloved story of boyhood freedom.

When we first met "the pariah of the village... the son of the drunkard" in The Adventures of Tom Sawyer, Tom was "under strict orders not to play with him," so he played with him every time he got the chance. Twain took his most outrageous and outcast character (and perhaps the one he loved the most), Huckleberry Finn, from that timeless tale and wrote his own adventures.

This giant work, in addition to entertaining boys and girls for generations, has defined the first-person novel in America and continues to demand study, inspire reverence, and stir controversy in our time.

This novel is part of Brilliance Audio's extensive Classic Collection, bringing you timeless masterpieces that you and your family are sure to love.

Easy listening

Dick Hill has a smooth voice. His accents are consistent and enjoyable. I didn't notice any distractions and was able to be completely submerged in the story. Excellent narration of a classic story.

A great American novel

Twain never tells you what's right or wrong. He shows you people at their best and worst and lets you decide. A great story full of real characters. A wonderful adventure.

Classic book wonderfully narrated

What does Dick Hill bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

There were several variations of this book available. I sampled some of the audio and decided on Dick Hill's version. I am so glad I did. He was able to bring this classic tale to life with his animated performance highlighted by his talent for using different (and consistent) voices for the characters. I have heard many audiobooks simply "read", but Dick Hill managed to act out the entire story.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

If I had available that many hours at a time...
