About this listen

National Book Award nominee and five-time Spur Award-winner Loren D. Estleman is widely considered one of America's finest Western authors. In this riotous and action-packed tale of Old West high jinks, a band of thieves posing as a traveling theater troupe runs afoul of a clever Pinkerton agent.©2006 Loren D. Critic reviews

"One of Estleman's best novels. As such, it will engage not just Western devotees but readers of more meaty historical fiction as well." (Booklist)

Colorful Characters

This story is driven more by it's colorful characters than it's Old West era. I thoroughly enjoyed the quirks and personalities of the Prarie Rose Cast as well as those who pursued them.

I'm becoming very fond of the Narrator as well. Jonathan Davis is a storyteller and assumes his various characters without overplaying them as some Narrators find the need to do.

The overall plot was interesting, but could have been a little less predictable at the end, which is why I gave it 4 stars rather than a 5. I highly recommend the book and look forward to the next book by the same author and narrator.
