Publisher's summary

There was only one man who fought both Rocky Marciano and Muhammad Ali. There was only one man who recorded 141 professional Knock-Outs. There was only one man who trained both a young Ali and heavyweight champion George Forman. There was only one Archie Moore. With a seven-decade boxing career, including 27 years as a prize fighter, Moore's vast career and exploits are finally chronicled in The Ageless Warrior. Author Mike Fitzgerald spent months with Moore before the boxer's death in an effort to capture the full life story of one of the 20th Century's most colorful and accomplished athletes. And what a story it was. Moore's opponent list reads like a "who's who" of boxing; he fought nine world champions and seven Hall-of-Famers.

Editorial reviews

Archie Moore's career in the ring is legendary: The man still holds the record for the most professional knockouts, and his achievement as the longest-reigning Light Heavyweight champion remains undisputed. In Mike Fitzgerald's epic biography The Ageless Warrior, Gary Telles narrates the life of the man affectionately nicknamed "The Old Mongoose". From Moore's experience training George Foreman to fighting Rocky Marciano and Muhammad Ali, Telles' animated storytelling pays homage to the rich life of one of boxing's greatest fighters.

What does a True Man Look Like?

He was a great boxer. He was a devoted Christian. Yes, he had a great ego but then again what top athlete doesn’t. Unlike today’s top boxers who seem to once they turn pro are ushered by their promoters into championship fights without having to serve much of an apprenticeship in the pro ranks as they did in the amateurs. This man though very unfairly treated became though largely self taught a boxer par excellence with a style like no other. This book chronicles his life and does so I believe in fine fashion. As stated before he had a much too long apprenticeship before he finally got his chance to fight for a championship .Perseverance ,Archie Moore had loads of it. Integrity ,he had that too. He also had a fighting heart. Some say champions are made and some say they are born either way Archie Moore was a champion in the ring and in life. This book is an entertaining listen for all boxing fans and young boxing fans who want to learn a little about how to live life. What does a true man look like? Well, even though he was far from perfect one would do well to remember two words Archie Moore. I would say that’s a pretty good role model.
