Editorial reviews
Alan Cross has been a disc jockey for over 30 years and has the confident and cool voice to prove it. Some years ago, he embarked on a writing project intended to trace the roots and development of "alternative rock". His project took him up through seminal ‘90s acts like Nirvana and Pearl Jam. Now, he has added a volume to bring his collection more up to date. Volume four focuses on newer bands like the White Stripes and the Killers and how they are "sending ripples" through the industry.
As Cross acknowledges in his introduction, how formative these newer bands will end up being is an open question. What’s not an open question is that Cross’ knowledge and speculation are great fun in and of themselves.
