About this listen

A lady imprisoned by deafness, an architect imprisoned by his past, and a ghost imprisoned within the petals of a flower intertwine in this love story that transcends life and death.

For most of her life, Juliet Emerline has subsisted, isolated by deafness, making hats in the solitude of her home. Now she's at risk of losing her sanctuary to Lord Nicolas Thornton, a mysterious and eccentric architect with designs on her humble estate. When she secretly witnesses him raging beside a grave, Juliet investigates, finding the name "Hawk" on the headstone and an unusual flower at the base. The moment Juliet touches the petals, a young English nobleman appears in ghostly form, singing a song only her deaf ears can hear. The ghost remembers nothing of his identity or death other than the one name that haunts his afterlife: Thornton.

To avenge her ghostly companion and save her estate, Juliet pushes aside her fear of society and travels to Lord Thornton's secluded holiday resort, posing as a hatmaker in one of his boutiques. There she finds herself questioning who to trust: the architect of flesh and bones who can relate to her through romantic gestures, heartfelt notes, and sensual touches...or the specter who serenades her with beautiful songs and ardent words, touching her mind and soul like no other man ever can.

As sinister truths behind Lord Thornton's interest in her estate and his tie to Hawk come to light, Juliet is lured into a web of secrets. But it's too late for escape, and the tragic love taking seed in her heart will alter her silent world forever.

International and NYT best-selling author A. G. Howard brings her darkly magical and visual/visceral storytelling to Victorian England. The Architect of Song is the first installment in her lush and romantic Haunted Hearts Legacy series, a four-book new adult Gothic saga following the generations of one family as, haunted by both literal and figurative ghosts, they search for self-acceptance, love, and happiness.

Very lovely sad but happy story

Sometimes predictable but then when you got to that point there would be a twist to it so what you though was going to happen changed. Very intriguing to read full of sadness, hope, love, and frustration.

My new favorite book

Where does The Architect of Song rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

Top 5 maybe even #1

Any additional comments?

This book is a perfect romance in my opinion. I'm not big on some of the more intense scenes in most true "romance" books. This book was all about actual love, not lust. This review does not do the book justice because I can't put into words what was so great about this book. I usually don't write reviews but this book earned one.

Beautiful and Tragic

A.G. Howard has done it again! compelling story which grabs you from the first lines. This story shows how deafness is strength for our Main Character. She grows to fully accept and love her deafness in the most beautiful way. This story gives insight into Romani beliefs and is quite the adventure. There is love, betrayal, murder and much more.

Not bad!

Great book. Cringe every time the word "China Rose" is said because the narrator makes it sound ridiculous. The story line is pretty good, kind of cheesy and predictable but it kept me fairly entertained while working so I was pleased on that account.

I didn't want this listen to end

Any additional comments?

Once you accept the premise of a ghost coming to life via a flower, this was a supernatural love story that will keep you rooting for one and then another and then back again. I loved it.

Who Juliette ends up with is almost a side story. There were multiple levels of intrigue, lots of mystery and a very satisfying HEA.

I didn't see the ending playing out the way it did but it made soooooo much sense. The epilogue actually made me cry. It was so sweet.

The narrator could not have been better. She. Was. So. Good. There were a variety of voices and she kept them rich and warm and alive.

It's a shame there is no book two. I want back into this world.

A touching and poetic romance

Howard continues to take my breath away with the way she can bring music to my ears and paint so vividly with words. This beautiful romance has so many twists and turns that end in bittersweet perfection.
