About this listen

When war was declared on our small valley my father and others organised our defence. Although I was but a boy of sixteen, I rode out with him. We had eighty men with us and I thought the war would soon be over. Then I learned General Zoin had two thousand trained soldiers. Only two things could stop him, the mountains that stood between us and the Captain, Silo Bracken. Silo was our leader. I wasn’t sure why but I was appointed to look after his things so he could concentrate on tactics. Somehow I ended up as the person who transmitted his orders to our men. Being this close to Silo I soon learnt we had only one hope. We couldn’t fight General Zoin head on, he was simply too powerful. So we fought a guerrilla war, striking hard and running for our lives. We had one rule – no prisoners. We asked for no mercy and gave none. Our men rode or died on the field of battle. The war was bloody and brutal, which left me wondering how we could possibly find peace at the end of it. Slowly an idea began to form, but I was only a boy. Then the unthinkable happened. Silo was captured. There were others more capable and more respected than me but if I could take control of our men just maybe peace had a chance. It would still leave one impossible gambit to be played out. It didn’t have the right to work but I thought it was our only hope. All I could do was try! Action & Adventure War
