About this listen

The Chinese dragon is flexing its muscles. As its military begins to prey on neighbors in the South China Sea, attacking fishing vessels and scheming to seize natural resources, the US goes on high alert. But a far more ominous danger lurks closer to home: a Chinese sleeper cell has planted a nuclear weapon in the harbor at Norfolk, Virginia, the biggest naval base on the planet. The target: a secret rendezvous of the Atlantic Fleet aircraft carriers and their battle groups.

When the CIA director is assassinated and Jake Grafton is appointed to take his place, he gets wind of the conspiracy, but has no idea when or where the attack will occur. In the meantime, a series of assassinations, including an attempt on the life of the President, shake the country and deliberately mask a far more sinister objective. Can Jake Grafton and his right hand man, Tommy Carmellini, stop the plot to destroy the US Navy?

Fine

Tt takes its time getting there but the wait is worthwhile.
Some of the characters are familiar. Some are new. It's a good plot. I would like to think that we would do as well as the folks herein. Perhaps we would . I hope we'll never find out.

very good story with lots of action

no one does it better than Coonts in bringing the headlines of today with the what ifs! Dove does a great job with the narration too.

Remarkable, fantastic espionage thriller

At age 70 author Stephen Coonts is getting better! His two releases this year are his best novels ever and are on par with the very best of the espionage thriller genre. First there was this novel The Art of War then Liberty's Last Stand. Both are in the Tommy Carmellini series. The suspense is intense and sustained. Narration Eric G Dove matches the high quality of the novel. I VERY HIGHLY RECOMMEND this novel!

Not bad good story idea

Starts fast and and ending is good but a bit slow and arduous in the middle. Author over works boring mid character plots trying to fill in the story, perhaps for the movie he is trying to sell. Overall the story is good with an excellent ending.B

Another good listen

As I listen to these stories I realized that I miss the interaction between Jake and Toad. TOAD'S ROBIN TO JAKE'S BATMAN'S. I'm hoping that Tommy's Witt will come to past. Toad is like a younger brother. Smart, mouthy, sly, irreverent, and just plain KOOL. LZ - a fan
