About this listen
“Eliza nodded in agreement. But where her brother saw the possibility of something otherworldly, Eliza knew its reality. She could feel the rotting bones of the house’s structure, decaying windows with their blank reflections, and the weary-looking oak door. She knew something not entirely human dwelled within that place. Something secret.”
Eliza Grey has always had a supernatural gift. She knows things. Unseen things.
As a child, she held her gift close. Only her brother knows about the ghost who claimed Eliza on a beach when she was five. This tortured apparition, the one she calls the Wet Lady, promised their paths would cross again.
Now a writer for a local newspaper in a Massachusetts seaside town, Eliza’s latest assignment leads to the discovery of a lone grave and a forgotten family burial plot. Honor Brown died in 1808. Honor’s mysterious death, ruled a suicide, sets off Eliza’s inner knowing.
With the assistance of an unlikely group of friends and her new furry sidekick, a Great Pyrenees named Murphy, Eliza unearths Honor’s truth.
Was it suicide, or was it murder?
But peeling away the layers of a 200-year-old mystery isn’t easy. Especially when Eliza uncovers a web of deceit leading back to the town’s mayor, who not only thwarts her investigation of the past but endangers her present.
Promises given. Promises taken. The Wet Lady has returned.
Destined to relinquish herself to this tormented soul, can Eliza uncover the truth before her mind and body are no longer her own?

Distinctive voices of individual characters!
Rich descriptive writing and “spot on” vocals of “Wet Lady” and other characters made the story intriguing and eerily captivating. Looking forward to Judith Cosby’s next novel!

Descriptions were so detailed
My husband and I listened to this book during a car trip and enjoyed every moment of Eliza Grey’s first mystery. The author, Judith Cosby, had a wonderful way of moving from present time to a moments long past that carried the reader easily from one place to the next. Her descriptions of people, homes and places - left a lasting impression with both my husband and me. We spent time in the car talking about how we saw the house, graveyard, etc. The narrator did a marvelous job at creating the various voices of characters, both male and female. We eagerly await Eliza’s next mystery!

The narrator has such a beautiful voice! I enjoyed listening to her!
The story was captivating with twists and turns that kept me interested. I’m not usually an audible listener, preferring to read for myself but this book was narrated so well, with such a beautiful voice, I truly enjoyed it!
