If, for a moment, you need to get away from our present "Age of Anxiety" I highly recommend this brilliant recording of another one.

Jonathan Epstein's narration is nothing less than miraculous. He reads the "Beast" with clarity and kindness. He has a fine voice and knows just how to read James. He modulates skillfully. When I read this marvelous story years ago I wrestled endlessly with the Jamesian language and just didn't understand the portent. Now I do. This time, rather than suffering with "The Jamesian Language" I found it delicious. The musical insertions leant an added dimension to the pleasure of the experience and I am grateful for this wonderful recording. Bravo!

I prefer to spend my commute to and from work listening to a good story and have enjoyed many a literary classic through Audible. This reading is easily my least favorite in my library. It's boring, monotone, zero inflection. The reader makes no effort to differentiate between the voice of the narrator, the male protagonist and the female protagonist so at times you don't even know who is speaking. That's if you're even paying attention. It's THAT boring.

Good story, terrible reading
