Publisher's summary

The Believer: New Beginnings Book 1 Dr. Robert Kamer, the world renown psychiatrist and financier, had a secret very few of his colleagues could even guess, and he was willing to go to extreme measures to keep it that way. He was a boy genius from a wealthy family. With a gift for languages and a photographic memory, he graduated college and medical school well before his contemporaries even finished high school. Rob's one love was his younger brother, Toby. Born with a learning disability, it was Toby's condition that motivated the young genius to pursue a career in psychiatry. Rob's parents however held his brother's welfare over him, threatening to put Toby in an institution where Rob would never see him again unless Rob helped them with his financial Midas touch. Rob could not wait to distance himself from his overbearing parents, so he took his internship and residency in England just before WWII. He then stayed in Europe, establishing his practice to help rebuild the lives of those devastated by the war. Rob's ultimate goal was to create and run an institution where Toby and other patients could learn to cope with their problems in a safe home-like environment, regardless of ability to pay. The untimely death of his parents in an automobile accident forced Rob to return to the states and deal with the complexities of his parent's vast estate. Rob planned to take Toby and return to Europe. That plan was thwarted when Rob realized his brother had taken a terrible turn for the worse. The shock of losing his parents was so great, Toby completely lost the ability to speak, and began exhibiting severely violent behavior. To prevent his violent brother from being institutionalized, Rob was forced to hide Toby in his mansion and treat him himself, while establishing a psychiatric practice in New York and L.A.. Tragically Toby's violent behavior made Rob's life a living nightmare. Peace came to both Rob and Toby in a most unexpected person, someone who rapidly understood the situation, and was able to provide exactly what both brothers needed.
