Berlin, 1938: It’s the height of summer, and Germany is on the brink of war. When fledgling reporter Georgie Young is posted to Berlin, alongside fellow Londoner Max Spender, she knows they are entering the eye of the storm.

Arriving to a city swathed in red flags and crawling with Nazis, Georgie feels helpless, witnessing innocent people being torn from their homes. As tensions rise, she realises she and Max have to act – even if it means putting their lives on the line.

But when she digs deeper, Georgie begins to uncover the unspeakable truth about Hitler’s Germany – and the pair are pulled into a world darker than she could ever have imagined…

If you like WWII historical fiction than this is the book for you. It is a take through reporters eyes. A view we don't often see when it comes to WWII and pre WWII. The book is well written, the characters are well developed. The narrator is great. Overall I think this is a great read.

I enjoyed this book. It was slow starting and took me a bit to get into it but half way through it picked up. The ending is good. Hard to imagine what it was like during WWII. The reader did very well!

At first I though the`main character. Might be a silly girl just romancing pre war Berlin. I was so wrong. What a strong brave woman she turned out to be. Innovative and loyal and ethical. I loved most of her characters and the evil ones were well developed I will read more from this author Deserves 5 stars Not afraid to tell the world of the atrocities of the nazis.

I enjoyed this book very much with one exception. The deneument escape story was totally implausible and took this book from being great to just really good. But I still liked it...I guess fiction has its right to poetic license.
