About this listen

From New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Lexi Blake comes a new story in her Masters and Mercenaries series…

The Bodyguard

Nate Carter left Australia's elite SASR unit after a tragic accident. Shattered by the experience, he thought taking a job in the States might be a good way to start over. His father's former employer, McKay-Taggart, has a position for him in the bodyguard unit. He never imagined himself risking his life for celebrities and the wealthy, but it will do for now. It will also give him a chance to reconnect with old friends, including the girl who'd been like a little sis to him ten years before.

These days, however, his feelings for Daisy O'Donnell are anything but brotherly.

The Bombshell

Daisy O'Donnell is a girl on a mission, and it does not include falling for one of her brother's best friends. She has plans, and while chaos always seems to follow her, she's determined to see this through.

Daisy finds herself in need of a bodyguard when a job goes terribly wrong. She's sure her dad will find someone suitable, but she didn't expect a big, gloriously masculine Aussie to show up ready to take a bullet for her. Maybe spending some time with Nate Carter won't be so bad after all.

An explosive match

Thrown together by danger, Nate and Daisy can't resist the insane chemistry between them. When his past and her present collide, they must decide if they can hold it together or go their separate ways forever.

Every 1001 Dark Nights novella is a standalone story. For new listeners, it's an introduction to an author's world. For fans, it's a bonus book in the author's series.

I love Daisy so much! She manages to accomplish so much from what seems like a dumpster fire in the making. Nate is just what she needs to keep her just inside the lines of safety and she is just what Nate needs to fill his world with light, love and energy. Life will never be boring for Nate 😂

Ryan is perfection as always. I could listen to him for days.

Daisy is an adorable ball of chaos

This was a great new story but with plenty of laughs from the old guard (Ian, Liam, Adam). Loved it.

My favorite so far of the younger generation books

4.25 Stars

On one hand this is a no brainer because of the fact that I love this series so much. I'm not even sure there has been one book in this series that I haven't liked and that is truly saying something when you are over 30 books into a series (counting spinoffs, etc). But, this novella came out a while ago and as much as I wanted to jump in, I was waiting for the audio version. I ended up reading the next book that was released in the series before this one because that audio came out the day it was released and this audio took several months before it dropped, so there are a couple of mentions in that latest book about some of the events in this one. But, really, it wasn't a problem.

So....this book focuses on Daisy O'Donnell - the daughter of Liam and Avery - and we learn that she is a character. A free spirit type who seems to cause chaos wherever she goes, but who has such a wonderful personality that she is adored - well, and maybe a little bit scary to some.

Then there is Nate Carter - who is the son of Brody and Stephanie Carter. For those of us who have been in this from the beginning, these two families have a pretty serious back story and I think that makes this whole story arc that much better.

Anyway, Daisy cracked me up and I loved her entire personality and way of looking at the world. Yes, Nate is going to have his hands full, but based on what we saw of his personality, they seem to balance each other out.

Was there some OTT drama involved? Well, yep. Was some of it pushing the believability scale? Possibly. Did they fall for each other too fast? Definitely. But I still enjoyed following along and watching the chaos.

As always, Ryan West knocks the narration out of the park, but he has been the voice of the series since the beginning, so I have come to just expect his excellent performances.

It is always fun to see this new generation giving so much grief to their parents when we know how much chaos the older generation got into.

Can't wait for who ever is up next :)

Daisy is truly one of a kind....

Love this whole world. The characters are both funny, serious, and relatable. It’s the kind of extended family you wish you had. Can’t wait for the next book!!

Love this!!

I love this series, the author and the narrator. This next generation story unites adult children from two great couples in the M&M world. Nate and Daisy were meant to be. We also get glimpses of other adult children in the M&M series. I very much look forward to more next generation books.

Funny and romantic!

This is a fast paced one with emotional hotness, danger around every corner and family misunderstandings. It a hot ride you don’t want to miss. And thanks to Ryan West’s sexy voice and great impersonations it was a perfect book.

Spunkiness, hot bodes, great sex
