About this listen
"The Boxcar Children" is a classic children's tale by Gertrude Chandler Warner, originally published in 1924. "The Boxcar Children" tells the tale of four orphaned children, Henry, Jessie, Violet, and Benny, who create a home for themselves in an abandoned boxcar in the forest. Through the intervention of a doctor who treats Violet who has fallen ill, the children meet their grandfather. Unlike their erroneous perception of him, their grandfather turns out to be a kind man; they move in with him and the beloved boxcar a playhouse in the back yard. The book was adapted as the film The Boxcar Children in 2014.
