About this listen

A thrilling saga of man vs. the wild, and a savage game that quickly becomes a deadly nightmare.

To salvage his broken-down ranch, near-bankrupt Ben Pearce devises a hunting scheme, the consequences of which he cannot begin to imagine. The prey: three rare, fierce cats - a leopard and two mountain lions caught in the wild. The predators: an arrogant Texas millionaire, his beautiful but disturbed wife, and their near-psychopathic teenage son. Each of them will hunt one of the animals with only Ben as guide: first the wife, then the son, and finally the Texan. In a closed New Mexico canyon, a hunt conceived in evil will run its deadly course when the hunters discover that the leopard is stalking them - an unexpected twist in this terrifying game that will forever change their lives.

This book has a prose and construction like For Whom The Bell Tolls, but sticks closer to the story. Awesome story. Love me some Faust!

Performer is very good. Perfect pacing, not mechanical, doesn't stray too far from his natural voice.

Awesome Story

Not sure how this book ended up on my playlist but it was entertaining in the way a train wreck is captivating. You know what’s going to happen but still listen. I was interested in the cultural references.

Very predictable but entertaining

The main characters (ranch owner and Texas rich game hunter) are interesting antagonists, who change attitudes as story progresses. Story is developed well and climax is gripping. Well Worth the entertainment time required.

Desperate big game rancher

Loved the story and the setting so aptly illustrated by the author. Bittersweet though with the destruction of God's most beautiful animals

excellent

An odd millionaire with a very odd family that really don't want to kill anything goes on a family hunting trip for the first time. What could go wrong? The story started off strange, and never got better.

I enjoyed several of Faust's books, but not this one. I do not recommend it.

Not Ron Faust's best book

As a Texan, I resent the stereotyping of the characters. As a Baptist, I resent it even more. The author obviously doesn't know anything about either.

It was a good book but I didn’t like the way it ended. It seemed abrupt.

The ended was meh

Cats are sneaky animals that like to torture their prey instead of just killing and eating it. It is a good story that ends with a cat receiving justice. The only downside of the story is the stereotyping of Native American people as drunks; those I know are not. A well done reading of a fine story.

I Don't Like Cats

On of those books you keep reading hoping it would get better - and never does. what "a pity party". Narrator did a good job. He didn't have anything to work with.

TOTALLY BORING
