About this listen

One of the most inventive and charming retellings of the Arthurian legend, this is the final part of The Once and Future King.

In these last two books, the ageing king faces the greatest challenge of his reign, when his own son threatens to overthrow him and destroy everything he has worked for. In The Book of Merlyn, Arthur's tutor Merlyn reappears, and the ancient magician teaches him that, even in the face of apparent ruin, there is still hope.

Wonderful story but a little too much Philosophy

I adore T H White's writing, with his anachronisms and his glorious descriptions of his beloved England. The Candle in the Wind is the wonderful story of the only too human Guinevere, Lancelot and Arthur, but the Book of Merlyn is a discussion of the state of the world, as it was written just before and during the second World War, with the terrifying rise of the Nazis. If you can last through the philosophising, you will feel deep empathy for gentle, loving Arthur as he nears the end of his amazing life. Beautifully narrated.

Really amazing book. A must read and perspective changing book. The story itself is amazing as well as the narration. Easily one of my new favorite and a book I will remember for life.

Good book

The first book in this two books and I liked. The second book has a lot of good stuff in it, but when they start talking about evolution, and different things like that that I did not like. Merlin also mentions things that he should not know about in that time.
