Publisher's summary

Abduction. Murder. A conspiracy that could bring down the King.

London, 1667: In the wake of the Great Fire, a new city has emerged from the flames. The King has reopened the capital’s theatres, and the royal court is hell-bent on debauched entertainment. But amid the raucous festivities, an actress shows up dead, dressed in the clothes of a missing girl.

It’s a time of great change for thief taker Charlie Tuesday too: his old flame, Maria, is on the cusp of marrying someone else. But when she is abducted on the way to her wedding, Charlie realises her disappearance is linked to the murder.

Meanwhile, as Lent draws to a close, London is exploding into shocking riot. With brothels and theatres being attacked, Charlie and his sidekick Lily must find clues before an angry mob does. And as the mystery deepens and violence fills the streets, can Charlie solve a riddle that threatens not just Maria, but London itself?

Narration is phenomenal

Steve West does the best job narrating these stories! I don’t think it could be improved upon in any way! What a great treat to listen to to fun story with his wonderful voices!
The story itself is excellent the characters come to life and you get to follow them all along in a fun mystery. It’s win win! Can’t wait to start book two reviewers are saying it’s even better than book one!

London in the year 1666

The Thief Taker series with protagonist private cop Charlie Tuesday is the obviously loving work of British female journalist C. S. Quinn. The Changeling Murders is Book 4 in the series. I've become addicted to the series which started out as 5 star novels with each getting even better than the prior. The Great Fire of London of 1666 followed the Great (bubonic) Plague of 1665. These were desperate times in London and Quinn's telling of the story is appropriately raw. Charles II was unfortunate to be the monarch.

This series is not for everyone. British history addicts will like it most. Napoleon Ryan narrated the first two novels in the series and Steve West has narrated the most recent two. Ryan and West sound a lot like each other and both are outstanding.
