About this listen

From New York Times best-selling author Mariah Stewart comes a new chapter in her celebrated Chesapeake Diaries series, featuring her signature "rich characterization, charming setting, and a romance you'll never forget" (Robyn Carr, New York Times best-selling author).

Architect Cassidy Logan has sworn off good-looking adventurers. Newly divorced, she's focused on building ecologically friendly, historically accurate homes on the Chesapeake Bay for her father's construction company. Traveling to Cannonball Island - where there has been no new construction in nearly 100 years - Cass is sensitive to the heritage of the island and has come up with plans so perfect she's determined to buy a home for herself. Even the fact that Owen Parker - a local whom she dismisses as a lightweight and a player - seems to be everywhere isn't enough to deter her from building her dream house.

Owen Parker is and always has been sinfully handsome and wickedly clever, a magnet for mischief as well as girls. He's a rolling stone, going and doing whatever appeals to him, from flying a mail plane in Alaska to working on a cattle ranch in Australia and a shrimp boat in Louisiana and surfing and diving in Costa Rica. When an old friend offers him a job salvaging a sunken ship on the Chesapeake Bay, Owen gladly accepts. Something's been telling him it's time to head home to Cannonball Island, and a job is as good an excuse as any. And he's totally smitten by the pretty architect on the scene, but it seems he's finally met a woman who's immune to his charms. Sooner or later, Owen will have to face the reason why he always runs, because this time, leaving just might be harder than staying.

Tangled Webs

I can’t help myself, I just want to get to learn more and more about St Dennis and Cannon Ball Island’s residents.

Good Storyline

The plot, story was as good as the rest of the books in this series. The narrator detracted from the o real rating. Xe Sands narrated the first books—and I got spoiled listening to her. This narrator didn’t change voices—all were basically the same. She will probably stop my purchase of the next book in the series because she is the narrator.

What happened to the narrator??

Great story but couldn’t really enjoy it as I have the others in the series because the narrator changed. Why would anyone change the narration for the last few book in a series?? So disappointed to see this same narrator for the next book.

Just no…. Not the right narrator

Story was great… I enjoyed the series, however, the narrator ruined this one for me…. The accents were wrong and it was completely different than the feel of the other 10 previous books.

Should have kept Xe Sands

Why change narrators in the middle of a series? This person has no personality and does a horrible job changing voices. I love this series and will listen until the end but this hurts that Xe Sands isn’t finishing the series! She is the best!!

Story & narration not as engaging as previous ones.

Had this been Book 1 in the series I would not have listened to the rest. Perhaps it was only due to having a different narrator but as I was listening it also felt like it was a different author compared to the others in the series. I wanted to love the characters but it sadly fell short.

Why did they give up XE sands?

Story predictable but fun. Narrator a terrible match for this series. Don’t understand why they changed narrators. Just about couldn’t finish.

Terrible Narrator

The decision to step away from Xe Sands as the narrator did not serve the story well. Having listened to and gotten accustomed to the “sound” of each of the characters voices only to have them changed in the second to last book in the series was maddening. In this book, it was difficult to discern who was speaking because all the characters sound pretty much the same and have a funky almost Irish accent. Bizarre 🙄

Narrater threw me for a loop

I love EX Sands narration of the The Chesapeake Diaries Series. The new Narrator was okay, but lost me a bit listening to her voices. EX Sands nailed the all the voices, and Joy, is a little more like going to the school Library.
However the story line is wonderful! One more in the series, I hate to see it end.

changing narrators

When you have listened to the first 10 of 12 books in a series you not only know the characters but you know their voices, how they enunciate, any accent they may have and even how they would likely react to things.....all because of how they were presented by the narrator. So when a different narrator is used for book 11...all familiarity is thrown off.
Because I was so invested in the series I made myself listen anyway. so unsatisfying...and the connection with the characters seriously broken.
