Publisher's summary

From back-office accountant to front-line executive, the rapid rise of the chief financial officer is unrivalled by any other corporate role. With access to every facet of the business, CFOs now wield a level of influence matched only by chief executives. This book explains how CFOs earned their privileged position, and what the future may hold for them. It describes their ever-expanding role, and how they are transforming their departments to help them deal with it.

With insights from current and former CFOs, it benefits from a firsthand perspective on finance leaders' aspirations and doubts. It is a useful reference for finance chiefs to learn from peers and benchmark their own performance; those looking to build a career in corporate finance; managers seeking to improve their relationship with the finance department; and service providers - banks, accountancies, and consulting firms - and anyone who wants to get on the good side of the keeper of the corporate chequebook.

Great book that takes an all encompassing view

I’ve read a few books on finance, and specifically, those that focus on the roles in the finance profession. This book has the most unbiased view of what cfo’s across the globe are doing. I know that many won’t like this because the book doesn’t tell you to move up the corporate ladder through finance and accounting roles to become a cfo, but try to look past that. Pay attention to the specific skills outside of finance that a good cfo really needs!

Definitely worth the read for anyone aspiring to become a cfo.

Understanding the grey men and woman

This is a great book that will explain the importance of a CFO and why you should study a CA(SA) eventhough you hate it and are not one of the typical grey men with zero imagination.
