About this listen

When storyteller David Novak asked a young girl what she wanted for dinner, the answer he got was "Cookies!" That girl didn't get cookies for dinner, but she did get a story. Now we all can share David Novak's story about the little girl who always wanted to eat cookies. It's a story with a lesson, as most stories are, but mostly, it's a story that's fun and memorable. Throughout this collection, listeners will be gently reminded that new stories are often old stories warmed up.

Editorial reviews

Professional storyteller Novak serves up this eight-course listening treat: "The Cookie Girl," about a girl who will eat nothing but cookies; "Peter Piper's Plan," an extension of the traditional tongue-twister; variations of the fable "The Grasshopper and the Ant;" "Oh! That's a Good Idea!" an adaptation of a tale of Coyote as creator of people; "Give Me Back My Button!" a Turkish folktale; and three other stories. Novak creates a cozy storytelling circle, as is evident from the chorus of young voices responding during the live performance. Listeners young and old will join in with laughter.

We first checked this out of the library as an audio cassette in the early '90's. It eventually gave out and we were unable to buy it used or as a CD for years. Was so excited to see this offered digitally--AT LAST.

These are memorable stories, told in an infectiously fun way--that any age would enjoy.

my kids' all time favorite--and they're now 18-22!

It took us a few listenings to love this one but now we do. It is a few short stories that are funny with funny voices and plots. The reader/author is unusual and animated. The cover story is about a girl who eats too many cookies and turns into one. My kids ages 5 and 7 love it.

Funny

I didn't expect both of my boys (ages 6 and 3) to love this one, but they do. The way the storyteller uses different voices and sound effects keeps the kids engaged. The fiddler crab story is especially cute and fun.

A surprise hit at our house
