Critic reviews

"Waldman, herself a former public defender, vividly portrays life on the street and behind prison walls. Human and credible characters...lift a mystery that should delight committed fans and attract new ones." (Publishers Weekly)

Short but well written

I have never thought of the plight of pregnant women in prison, but, Waldman does a good job bringing it to the attention of her readers in an entertaining way. In the latest addition to this series, Juliet does a favor for assistant which leads to her investigating a murder involving the prison system's treatment of pregnant women. There are many twist and turns throughout the book to keep you guessing to the end. An interesting side plot is what seems to be the deterioration of Juliet's marriage. I saw several red flags throughout the book that made me raise my eyebrows because of her treatment of her long suffering and patient husband. By the end of this short book, Juliet finally pulls it together. However there isn't a happy ending. Waldman keeps it realistic. Which is one of the reasons I like this series. This book albeit short is worth a credit.
