In 1974 the brilliant and controversial Brian Clough made perhaps his most eccentric decision: he accepted the Leeds United Manager's job. As successor to Don Revie, his bitter adversary, he was to last 44 days. David Peace takes us into the mind and thoughts of Ol' Big 'Ead himself and brings vividly to life one of postwar Britain's most complex and fascinating characters.

Soccer definitely has game. It’s played by more than 200 million people around the world, and it's the world's most-viewed sporting event. If you're in America, Canada, Ireland, or Australia, you probably call it soccer, and if you live in most other parts of the world, you call it football. Whether you're a casual player, a serious fan, or just interested in learning more about the game and its staying power, these audiobooks capture what makes soccer such a sensation.
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
Loved the telling of the tale, the prose (much of it purple), the narrators compelling interpretation and the underlying premise of the book - one of my favorite audible purchasesAwesome marraige of speaker and story

I was immediately drawn into the relentless pace, and it was full throttle all the way to the end.
A legendary story about a legendary coach.
Genuinely unforgettable, both story and performance!

What made the experience of listening to The Damned Utd the most enjoyable?
Having read half of the book previously and watching (and enjoying) the film I was looking forward to listening to the abridged version of the book on a long drive from Vancouver to Portland. The story is well digested in it's 4-5 hour timeline and it flows incredibly well. This is no small part due to John Simm who reads the story incredibly well. His accents and narration are well done but neutral enough to not enter the comedic arena that lesser actors could take them too. He reads with passion and enthusiasm and I believe his part of this audiobook promotes it way higher than it might have otherwise.I really enjoyed it.
Who was your favorite character and why?
Simm's portrayal of Clough is excellent. What about John Simm’s performance did you like?
Simm did a really good job. He's added enthusiasm when needed and really made me feel the emotionA wonderful story along with a great narrator

What would have made The Damned Utd better?
Not jumping all over the place timeline-wise. Story line was rather hard to follow.Who would you have cast as narrator instead of John Simm?
Narrator was good. I just hated the book itself.Any additional comments?
Clough was an embittered, whiny bitch. The whole time he cusses and yells at the people around him, and constantly tells us his hatred for Don Revis. I got sick of it and couldn't finish this piece of crap book. If I owned the physical copy I would go burn it in a dumpster right now.Rubbish!
