About this listen

Ashcombe was the most beautiful house Saskia had ever seen as a little girl, providing a perfect sanctuary to hide from the tragedy which shattered her childhood. Now an adult, Saskia is still living at Ashcombe and, as a book restorer, devotes her days tending to broken, battered books. When she discovers a notebook carefully concealed in an old Bible, Saskia finds herself drawn into a heart-rending tale of wartime love....

My First Erica James Book

I really enjoyed this book. I listened to it while in London. I have been to Bletchley Park
and really enjoyed the historical connection. The narration was good...had a little trouble with the male voice at first but the interesting story made me overlook the slight drawback.
Will get more from this author whose written books are not readily available in the U.S .
Thanks to audible for offering this English author to us stateside.

A Joy to Read/Listen!

Beautifully written, structured, and paced. Unforgettable characters. Brilliantly performed by both narrators. This is sincerely one of my favorite books in the genre.

An absolute gem!

I’ve gotten very fond of Erica James and the characters she brings to life! This book is another gem, with stories and personalities that I wish would go on and on. The notebooks in this one are a very clever way to tell a lingo a d but parallel story. Loved every bit of it!

Nice story - just slow

Really liked the story but it just had a lot of slow moments. I would have cut the repetitive narrative by a third

Silly

Dreadfully soggy characters. The main narrator was good, but the secondary one was awful - sounded far too young for the part.
